I had a question today about the MegaTech board which is the isolator board for chassis to house and house to chassis charging. I called up and spoke with someone there who walked me through the whole design. If he didn't do that, I would have thought I had a problem..
Turns out that chassis charging house keeps house at 12.2 volts and then house will drop out (without gene/shore power). Turns out that house charging chassis (without engine running) will also drop out at the same voltage.
The isolator relay simply closes the solenoid that is used for batt boost. It drops out at these voltages so that the solenoid is not overtaxed. This gives the battery a usable voltage but you still must use the main source of charging, (house--gen/shore) Chassis from engine alternator to get up above 13 volts. Thank you MegaTech for the education and for saving me grief and not chasing a problem. I may change this over to a true BIRD in the future, but since we use both systems and things are status quo, I am letting this be for now.
For long periods of storage, I use a trickle charge on chassis batteries or I turn them off. Because of the dogs we do run the gene and turn on front AC so that takes care of everything.
