Sounds like a Wiper Seal has a cut in it and leaking under pressure. Or do you see any damage to the cylinder rod itself? I have worked in the construction industry for 30 years and we used our local Caterpillar dealer to rebuild ALL our hydraulic cylinders no matter the make or size. 2' to 30' long.

Johnny1 - Suggest you clean it off and use it more. I had a jack that leaked and the jack pad would fill with fluid, kept using it and the leak stopped. It could just be a small piece of dirt in the seal that will work it's way out. Mine stopped leaking after 2 or 3 uses. Keep an eye on the fluid level. Good Luck!

If you don't use the jacks often, seals could dry out. In any event, buy a can of transmission leak fluid and see if that works before spending any real $$$.

Is there a grease zerk on the seal ring? If so try a couple of strokes of grease in it. I had one jack that had a very slight leak, a little grease fixed it.
