I had the classic lift pump symptoms the other day. It would start but not continue to run. I looked around and found the lift pump leaking from where it mounts to the support. I tightened the 3 attach bolts and it quit leaking. It ran fine for 3 days and 1500 miles.

I see that Cummins has issued a bulletin saying that ULSD fuel is known to cause leakage with the nitrile gaskets used in the lift pump seals, at the upper as mine was and the lower where the electrical connection is.

I'm inclined to change the pump and prevent future problems. I figure a seal kit will have the same labor as putting in a new pump with new seals.

Any thoughts on this?

Your thoughts are correct. I think the pump cost around $250 plus labor. Don't think Cummins sells a seal kit any more. As far as I know they never had a seal for the electrical connection area. Should be less labor to change it than to replace seals even if they have all the seals. At least an hour more labor for the seals.

If you join the Cummins Power Club ($19 a year) you can get 10% off parts and in some Cummins shops. Any Cummins shop will have the details.

Have 2000 Monaco Winsor. Have had problems for 3 years.
Have replaced fuel filters several times and would usually help for a while.
Usually we would get engine shut down message and if we pumped the gas the light would go off for a while worse when going up a grade. In May the engine finally just quit. Had to be towed to MACON Georgia. They replaced the Fuel Pump with a rebuilt. Was alright for about 4 hours then the problem started all over again. Dealer wants us to bring back to Macon if we can make it from Ohio without being towed and he will look it over.
Not sure where lft pump s located on my Cummins engine but I think this has been my problem all along. If anyone has any answers let us know Thanks

The lift pump on my ISC is located at the the flywheel end, passenger side corner. It has 3 fuel lines and two oil lines that go to it. The old one had three bolts that I was able to tighten to stop the leak, which got me home. There was evidence of leakage before my problem. The day before I had a leak I had a momentary stop engine light, which I'm sure now was due to low lift pump pressure.

The new pump has no bolts to tighten. I also make at least one more pound of boost.

Good luck!
