Looking at 2003 HR Neptune, 36 DP..can't get a good price comparison
Hi All,
interested in any ideas/opinions about this coach. We're in a Winnebago Sightseer 29R which has become too small after only 8 months! We will be driving a 2003 Neptune tomorrow at CW in Mesa, AZ. Asking price is $53K, has 44K miles, 254 hrs. on Onan 5500 generator, Allison trans. It's very clean, has been garaged, lots of features we like. Is NADA the place to go first? And is that the right name
Going to diesel is new for us, but DH was a bus driver for years and is familiar with, and likes, the diesel rigs.
We're not full-time except now, wintering in AZ. Not sure what will happen after Feb/March (house being sold, just retired, want to see the country)
Would appreciate any opinions out there.
Thanks!

Congratulations if you get the new rig. Cant help you with pricing however:
As you are aware the most important part is the FLOOR PLAN. If you can get what you require for a reasonable price you should go for it.

Warning! I do believe that coach is equipped with the notorious RR4R chassis that has the trailing arm issue. Before you do anything, make sure that the trailing arms have been replaced with Source Engineering replacement trailing arms. If it hasn't, deal with the dealer to have it done prior to purchase.

I own a 2003 32' Neptune. Cummins 300 turbo. Plenty of power and decent ride. The suspension is the big issue. Make sure the trailing arms have been redone there are many horror stories about the factory ones failing. Go to source engineering website for info on trailing arms and ride enhancement packages.
The other weak area to check is the aluminum radiator. Mine has a slow leak that needs attention. Very costly to repair.
Ido love the ride and build of this Neptune. The last thing to check is towing capacity. Some are only 4000 lbs from the factory so if you plan on towing a heavy toad or trailer you may want a higher capacity.
53,000. Is on the high end of pricing for a perfect unit. These are entry level DP.
Hope this helps,
Rick

I am the original owner of a 2003 Neptune 36'. We have 85,000 miles on the coach. Replaced the trailing arms, added the ride improvement kit from Source Eng. and replaced the alum. radiator. Had one serious issue with the Cummins - a leak in the turbo cooling loop. All that said, we really like the coach and have lots of wonderful memories. We recently replaced the TV's with flat screens. Big plus.
I can't comment on the price, but the coach has been a lot of fun, despite the problems.
