I went to check the hydraulic fluid level on my 2000 Diplomat but the dipstick fell off of the reservoir cap into the reservoir. I tried fishing it out with a magnetic pick-up and a claw tool with no luck. Short of removing the container and dumping it out anybody have any ideas??
Thanks,
Greg

Greg...If it's like mine, pull the filter out and stick your hand in there. I can reach inside the entire reservoir.

Are you sure there was one there? Allison says the access at the rear is put on by the chassis manufacturer. Their dipsticks are short ones down on the side of the trans.
I went to check my fluid on a new to me '06 Camelot and when I took off the cap there was no rod! I thought the same thing - that it fell down into the trans. I called Allison and got the info above. They also said even it was on there and fell down into the tube there's no moving parts at the bottom so it wouldn't hurt anything.
What do I know?????!!!!!!
I put a question out on another post to see if anyone else has run into my situation on a Monaco.

Hossandjo the original poster was speaking of the hydraulic reservoir and not the transmission.

Well I looked real hard at the canister the other day and saw that there was a large bolt holding the top cover on. Removed the bolt, it had a spring and a gasket on it, reached in and retrived the dip stick. I remounted it to the filler cap using a nylock nut.
Thanks,
Greg

I lost mine some time back too. I had unscrewed it too far when loosening it to check the fluid level. I removed the lid and got it with a magnet. I suspect that vibration could loosen it up so using a nylock nut is good idea.

I'm glad I found it too. I thought that the filler cap unscrews, but it does not. It is actually just a press fit. By trying to unscrew it when I didn't have to I unscrewed the dipstick from the cap and it fell in. You know, If it's one thing I hate it's driving around without my dipstick.
