lost my fresh water

filled up my fresh water tank yesterday. when I put the valve back to city water, all the water ran out of the tank thru the hose fill. i'm guessing the check valve didn't close. is this right?

Are you sure it wasn't just your overflow hose draining off the excess. If your RV is like mine I don't believe there is a check valve on the fill, just the manual valve to fill the tank.

Had a similar thing happen some years ago. Found out the overflow tube slipped to the bottom of the tank and syphoned out all the water while traveling. Guy behind me on the free car got a free car wash.

I don't think it's the overflow hose. after I filled my tank, I removed my hose and the water ran out of the hose fill connection. it ran the tank dry.

Did you close the valve after you filled the tank? Otherwise your water pump will not be able to build pressure either.

There's always a check valve on the hose connection to the RV. Common failure item.

My Dynasty has a manual valve so i do not think there is a need for a check valve. It's not like a 5th wheel or travel trailer with just a hose connection.

Carry a screw in plastic (or brass) Plug and when that happens the "Quick Fix" is "Plug it" You reall should plug it when not using it anyway.

Option 2 screw in a short hose (like one of those 8-12 inch spring enclosed hoses) and a cut off valve (quarter turn sold for sprinklers and such) and close the valve.

There are other fixes but I will let others handle those.

I have a manual valve too and attached to the valve is a check valve .
When my tank pumped dry I found the check valve had a piece of rubber
washer stuck inside , pulled the piece out and no trouble since .

Here is the valve that I think many of us have .
The check valve is the brass part on the left

Mine has a check valve that's stuck shut, can't use the fill for city water or tank fill. I've been using the gravity fill for a year and a half. Side benefit; keeps the fresh tank fresh. It's a colossal PITA to fix because the check valve is hidden behind a bulkhead that is really awkward to remove.
