I filled the tank with a 100 gallons of diesel after our last trip, in February. Recently completed about a 1,000 mile trip and had issues. Engine started missing under load and got worse. Stopped at R and R RV's in Spokane, WA to have the fuel filters/water separators replaced. That did the trick, but they said the tank was full of algae and needed to be drained and flushed. I bought some algaecide but haven't used it yet because it says the filters may need to be service after use. I want to get some replacement filters to carry along as I see this as an ongoing issue until I get it all out of the tank. I need the numbers for Fleetguard replacement filters. That is what was on there, but they have replaced them with one from NAPA and the other is a no-name. I'm not with the coach right now, but the filter on the far-bottom right in the attached picture is number 3224 or 3442 or something like that. The one on the left is a different number I don't have. I also don't know which is the primary and which is the secondary. I've read some past posts and know that is important. One gets filled before installation and the other gets installed dry, apparently, some disagreement there.
Please, anyone know the numbers for my filters?
Thanks, Phil

Primary is the one with the water drain on the bottom, rt side in the picture , if you have NAPA numbers then any fleetgaurd supplier should x them for you.
Not 100% sure but from the look of the secondary, I'd guess equivilent to a FRAM # PS8048

Did you drain the tank? Until you do I would suggest buying a dozen or so filters as they will continue to clog. You do understand the algaecide only kills the algae, it leaves the residue and it will continue to collect in the filters until its been eliminated from the tank. I battled this with my farm tractor and now add algaecide each time I fill the tank.
BTW, each day it sits there you're growing more algae.

Thanks, Skip. Sorry the pics don't clearly show the filters. It is a pic I used for a different post. The one on the right does indeed have a drain on the bottom. The one on the left has a dark plastic "cup" attached to the bottom. You can see the fuel inside the cup. It also has what appears to be a drain on it, though somewhat different than the one on the right. The right one has a wire attched to it, the left one has a hose or two, attached. It's dark now and usually is by the time I get home. I'll look again over the weekend.

No, Jim, I haven't drained the tank. It probably has about 50 gallons in it. My plan is to get some extra filters to have on hand when I need to change them. I'll run the tank down as far as I'm comfortable with and then drain it, I guess. We have driven about 500 miles on these filters so probably just one more change-out until I can get it empty enough to drain.
Hopefully someone can give me the Fleetguard numbers that were on the coach before the change.
By the way, is it going to be a problem getting these off, or can I do it with just my hands?

I have a 99 Windsor my primary filter is a Racor S3201T and my secondary filter is a Fleetguard FS1022, I have the same problem with algae. Where are you draining the tank from, at the back of the motorhome or at the tank?

Madrona, highly unusual to have both filters with water, seperators/drains, can you trace the fuel flow, back from the engine to the filters. Even though, all the lines and fitting in the picture appear to be a factory install, PO of the unit may have added a filter thinking he only had 1, and any add on filter would be a water seperator type. If this is the case there may be a 3rd filter on your coach; could even be on the side of the engine, close to the pressure pump. Worth a good look! Most fuel / water seperator filters, are not available in the 2>3 micron recomended for the secondary filter.
MTB, fuel tank should have a low point drain, about center of the bottom of the tank.

Madrona, just got the picture from your post up on my wife's hi-def screen, the filter on the right may be part of the hydraulic system, if I'm getting a good enough look at the fitting and lines. Can you post a close up of both filters, and a shot of your engine bay from the top looking down; If it's not too much trouble. Your secondary filter may be under the air intake tube that runs from the air filter to the turbo.
Reasoning behind ,filling the primary filter and not the secondary is so any contaminants introduced from the fill container are filtered out before they get to the high pressure pump.
How much time did it take for the shop to change the filters ? Were they inside the coach to do it?

My 99 Windsor that looks amazingly like yours takes a FS1242 separator and a FS1022 fuel filter (Fleetguard). The separator is on the left (as you face the engine from the open cover) with a clear plastic bowl and the fuel filter is on the right. I always carry extra filters and filter wrench + strap wrench for clear bowl.

Algae, or Black Slime, can only grow if there is water in the bottom of the tank. So what I would suggest just to be on the safe side is to stop at a truck stop and get some water removing additive and put it in now before you drain the tank to make sure the water is fully dispersed. Then when you fill the tank back up put the algaecide in first so it mixes well. You need what is called a shock treatment to make sure it is killed. It will kill it all in 24-48 hours. When I had the Black Slime in my other MH it took about four changes of the first (primary) filter. It never got through to the secondary filter but it is worth changing it on the fourth go around. I use the algaecide in my tank every winter on the last fillup before it goes into semi storage just to make sure.

Good info DTBT and good advice, Mike. That should do me on this question. All responses much appreciated. I feel better now with a little knowledge and some good numbers. I'll post a new thread with another question/experience.

The Racor is missing the clear/amber bowl and the water sensor, S3201T is the filter element only. The Bowl part number is RK30051. The Racor Water Probe Kit is RK30964.

I've taken some more pics to help me clarify what I'm after. I understand you say the separator is on the left with the clear plastic bowl, but on my previous Fleetguard filters, I know the one on the right said Water Separator on it and it SEEMS like the one on the left did, also. Here are the pics:
Upper left is on the right in the engine compartment and has the NAPA number 3422 number and the drain on the bottom. Upper right is on the left and has the plastic fuel bowl. Lower left has the number on it, a little blurred, I had to poke my camera way in there to get the back side, it has no brand I could see, but it does appear to have a drain on the bottom of the bowl, also. The last pic is the overall engine compartment. The one on the right has a wire going to it that I presume I must remove to change the filter. The one on the left looks like you could just twist it off, bowl and all. So, I guess I just need to run these numbers down and carry some spares along with a strap wrench or filter wrench and a container of clean diesel. Does that about cover it?

Just a little odd to have 2 water separators in the system .The fllter # 533242, will x refrence to a Wix/NAPA #33242, with that # you can get your Fleetguard# . Sounds like your ready to be on the road. Good luck. Safe travels.

My engine compartment looks identical to yours. Water sensor on curb side which is where my amber/clear bowl is, FS1022 on driver side. As I recall the fs1002 is 30 micron and the "T" on s3201T means 10 micron.
