I have a 2000 Monaco Diplomat with a 315 HP cummins motor. The low coolant light stays on. It is full of antifreeze. The truck repair shop says I need a new low coolant sensor. They have been unable to find one for my unit. The sensor screws into the bottom portion of the antifreeze bag. It is a square metal bag with the sensor being mounted on the left side as you face it. It has one wire going to it. Where can I buy one. I am not getting any satisfaction from monaco or anybody else.

Hi bcrow8778,
Welcome to iRV2. Consider having a moderator move this post to the Monaco owners forum. There the question may be looked at by a bunch of Monaco owners.

Have you taken the sensor out and made sure it is clean? I don't understand how it works if it only has one wire going to it and is in a plastic tank. The ones I have alsways seen have two probes on it and as long as it is immersed in water will have a small amount of current flow between the probes. If the coolant gets low and uncovers the probes then no current flow and it sets off the alarm. Are you sure there is only one wire going to it? Double check the plug that hooks up to the sensor and see if it has one or two pins. If two pins then put a jumper across them and see if the light goes out.

What kind of chassis do you have? Our coolant system came as part of the chassis from Freightliner. You might be able to contact the chassis manufacturer for parts.

Have you upgraded the ground wire in the dash to a heavier gauge wire? Before we had the modification done, whenever we activated the headlights the low coolant light would come on and temp gauge would jump about 20 degrees. No shop could figure this problem out other than Monaco. they fixed it in about 10 minutes. I'm betting that is your problem.

What you describe does not sound right. On my 2001 Diplomat, the surge tank (overflow bag) is nylon and the sensor in mounted in the top on the right corner on old type tanks, and on the lower right side of the new type tank.

Old Tank .................................................. .......................... New Tank

Thank you for your help. I figured out that my monaco has a metal overflow tank that was added apparently after the plastic one cracked. The light being on was caused by a faulty wire going to the low coolant sensor. I ran a new wire from the low coolant sensor alarm to the low coolant sensor and it solved my problem. Thanks again.

I have the same problem on a 98 Endeavor - "Low Water" warning light stays on a for while and then comes on intermitently. I want to replace the sensor but have no idea where it is - any suggestions ?

The sensor is normally located in the lower one third of a radiator header tank or expansion tank. It should have a radiator cap on it and sit over to one side. They can either be plastic or metal.

The problem may or may not be your sensor. But, your sensor is located on the antifreeze expansion tank.(where you fill with antifreeze) It is located on the top or side of the tank.
