LP gen sets are, as a rule, pretty darn reliable and are not high maintenance. After 18 years? I'd not be too worried. Also, it comes to mind that the LP regulator may be getting a wee bit tired. That's a critical item for all the LP appliances. And, if it's running right (just techey starting) you might think about a new sparking plug. Also, for the present temperatures you have is the oil the 'best' grade? I use ONAMAX 15W-40 in my Onan 3600 LP that is good down to -4F and good for over 100F+. Not that I'm going out camping when it's below 40ish....
