The mirrors came off really easy--60 seconds with a heat gun and pry with a big scraper and they popped off. There was two strips of adhesive tape and a bead of glue between the tape.
I cut out a square and peeled the wall paper off and ended up with this.
Tomorrow I'll work on getting the wall paper residue off the wall and maybe get the wood primed to take the tile. I bought thin set mortar, but I'm thinking I'm going to take that back and get tile mastic which is more like a glue than a mortar.

Dennis and Katherine,
Taking the thin-set back and using the mastic designed to lay wall tiles is an excellent idea. If that wall is plywood the mastic will stick to it just fine without priming, just use the correct notched trowel and it should go great. I have been laying tile for many years and will eventually get my coach done, just haven't gotten to that project yet. Can't wait to see the finished project.

Back in Early 2013 I had my tile man install tile in the kitchen back-splash area along with both bathroom vanities.
Very pleased with the outcome and have never been disappointed with this decision to upgrade.
Here is the thread with before and after photos.

FYI. Rather than use fishing line to cut the adhesive behind the mirror, the following works great and is available at any local hardware store. It's easier to use and easier on your hands.

Dennis ,
I accidentally broke the large mirror on the side of my refrigerator cabinet
I removed the mirror with a long kitchen knife working it behind the mirror
staying away from the wood , it was quite a job , a small cable might
be helpful .
To make the job more manageable I broke the mirror , removed a piece then broke it
again etc .
There is some danger working with a large piece of glass so be careful .
After I got it off I was left with exactly the same black adhesive as in your picture
except the adhesive was stuck on the cherry wood wall.
I was able to remove it by rubbing the edge with my thumb without damaging wood
While I looked for a mirror or something to replace it I began to notice
the lighter wood color where the adhesive had been was darkening
Now you can not tell where it was , we like the cherry wood wall so we are leaving it

Thanks Ray! I'm going to tackle those mirrors next and it's nice to hear that I can get that stuff off without damaging the wood.

I wonder if all Monaco's have the wood behind or could it be wall paper. Any easy way of knowing? Our friends Fleetwood Revolution also has the mirrors on the side of the fridge wall. They were talking about replacing it.

About 20 minutes with a sander and I have a nice surface to attach the tile.
I prepped the area and started trying to figure out how to line up these tiles and gave up after a few minutes. I need to do this with a clear head, not at the end of the day.

Dennis -- I would not start the tile laying on top of your counter top back splash -- Leave a small space & grout it -- Your cabinets may have a slight movement when you operate your slides -- Bill Willard

Thanks Willard, I had planned to leave a 1/8" gap which is the spacing of the tile.

I learned a lot about putting up these tile sheets today. I had four exposed ends and I wanted polished ends of the tile to show, not the cut ends so I couldn't just cut the sheet square. First I popped off the end pieces that stuck out and cut them to length.
That was time consuming and tedious. Then it occurred to me that I could cut the whole sheet, trimming off the long pieces, and making sure I didn't touch the polished ends of the pieces I wasn't cutting. Then all I had to do was pop them off and flip them around. No measuring or marking.
It came out pretty good. I had about half a tile worth of space at the top and decided it wasn't worth cutting tiles in half length wise to fill in the space. It's not real noticeable.
