Like you, the Guardian plates look great, add strength to the bottom of the slide, and most importantly eliminate the worry and constant checking of caulking. Take care and keep up the great work. It gives us less skilled rv techs hope we can accomplish certain tasks.

Thanks Chad. Unfortunately mine has been stored outdoors up until last year but I worried about water intrusion on these corners and kept the caulking in good repair to avoid any issues.
I'm glad to be able to finally get these installed and hopefully not have to worry so much about the slide floors. One down and only two more slides to go. Glad to hear you installed yours and they are working out for you.
Thanks for stopping by.

What type and how much silicone sealer did you use?
Are the rivets stainless also?

Thanks Vito, the adhesive that comes with the Guardian Plates is made by 3M and is part #5200. It is a marine grade adhesive and has the consistency of bull snot, for those of you who grew up on a farm you will immediately know what I am talking about.
It requires about 7 days to fully cure but when fully cured is extremely strong. After I get the remaining slide plates installed and a few days of curing I will run a small amount of caulking around the perimeter of the Guardian plates but by the way the 5200 was squeezed out around the perimeter during installation it is doubtful the caulking will do much.
As for the rivets, yes, they are also stainless steel and of very good quality.
I highly recommend these plates.
I am actually working on a couple of videos demonstrating the method of measuring for the plates as well as installation of the plates. I will post up the videos here once I have them done and ready for viewing.

You're welcome Steve. Hopefully within the next week or so I will have the videos up. I think I am going to do one for the raised floor (RF) and one for the flat floor (FF) designs.

X2 on the videos Mike. I'm looking forward to ordering a set of the Tallin plates and had questions on measuring them.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Hi Mike,
I just read your whole thread! Wow, I mean really WOW!! You are definitely a very talented guy!! I have to admit, I didn't read it all in 1 sitting. It took me a few days, lol. I too, would like to do some of the mods that you have done to your rig. 1 is the prop, shock on the entry door. I've bought the parts, just haven't got it done yet. The other thing is I need the guardian plates. I went to the 419 maintenance session for the 1st time this year and got Chris from Talin to measure my slide that needs plates. Got them ordered and once they come in I will tackle that project. While at the 419 rally, I got to go to one of the chassis sessions put on by Van. It was VERY informative! So, now I would also like to do the Watts links upgrades. I don't think we will ever be done, with project's on these rigs but, just wanted to say thank you for this thread, its amazing! Myself and many others sure appreciate all the time, effort and work you put into this!! So, THANK YOU!!
Doug

Jim, I will cover the measuring portion of these in the videos as this is a common question that comes up according to Chris @ Talin. I will cover the measurements on both the raised floor (RF) and the flat floor (FF) Guardian Plates.

Doug, thank you for the comments, I am flattered.
I'm just a regular guy who wrenches for a living, nothing more, so if I can do it pretty much anyone else can and there are a LOT of talented people on this forum who keep their coaches in pristine order.
Thanks for taking the time to read through the entire thread and for commenting, I really appreciate it and am happy that you found it informative.

Mike,
Have you been to the 419 maintenance session in Goshen Indiana? Its a pretty amazing rally!! This year was my 1st time and it was basically information overload! Now that I've tried it out, I can't wait for next year, to go again! The people that were there are the best part of the rally, they were super nice and willing to help out in any way they could. Tons of sessions that teach you about our coaches! Just curious if you have been.
Thanks again for all you do!!
Doug

Doug, I have not been to the 419 maintenance session nor have I had any formal (or informal for that matter) training on our coaches. I have been a mechanic for 30 years now on everything from automotive and motorcycles to heavy truck and forklifts and have merely learned along the way.

True, but the shop came along after the work and long hours have been put in learning, repairing and modifying, or at least along with. The shop didn't just appear one day and have all of the tools and equipment. It's been a long, long process, but I'm sure that is what you meant.

Thanks Mike. Looking forward to those videos. I have yet to check the condition of the caulk you speak of. I fear mine has the original caulk, as the prior and original owner did only regular maintenance. Though it was garage kept for it's entire life.
How do you check the condition of the caulk? Do you use a caulk like you would for a shower tub or would Dicor self leveling work? Is the concern only applicable to the lower outside corners of the slides and not the above corners?
I intend to do the mod you outlined, but it will likely be some time before I get to it.
