Monaco Cayman owners, how to winterize 2011
Hello; I have the 2011 PDQ 40', and the downloaded manual. In the manual, it refers to a "Winterizing Valve" a few times. I can't find this valve anywhere on my Cayman. Help

Look at your water pump bay by your sanitary dump area against the left wall by pump. There is some valves in that area (don't pull the lever to empty the black tank). Sanford PS to be sure call the service department and give them your coach #......they will talk you through the procedure.

I have e-mailed Monaco and hope they come up with something. I have in the past gone to them for electrical info and the sent a pdf with the entire electrical schematics for our model. 100 pgs.

I have a 2009 Cayman 35SBD which is not exactly the same as yours but would share many similarities. i have owned it for 6 years now and have winterized it at least once every year. In my owners manual, on page 138 it shows a diagram of the wetbay facilities which includes the location of the winterization valve. I have included a screenshot below. If you look at your fresh water tank in the wetbay, the winterization valve is the first valve (closest to the tank) in the line exiting from the bottom of the tank which supplies the entire plumbing system with fresh water. During the winterization procedure, if this valve is closed, it will prevent any water from being drawn from the tank which makes it possible to draw antifreeze from an external jug of antifreeze. Please let me know if this helps and if I can help with any other Cayman questions.

Thanks Cayman Pilot; I will check that first thing in the morning and get back on my findings. My fresh tank is in a forward compartment, but there is a few valves there too. Your excellent description of and reason for the valving at the tank rings a bell for me. I think I have a valve on a line connecting at the tank bottom, right at the front of my tank. I will experiment with it to see if it can do what yours does. Where do you connect your antifreeze container when you are drawing from it? My instructions say to connect right to the fresh/city water inlet. It definitely makes sense that you need to isolate the fresh tank. Bob

The second pic shows my forward cabinet fresh tank and the valve can be seen on the lower right. The first pic is the utility cabinet.

Update. Monaco did their best, sent a bunch of drawings, but none were helpful for my problem. They were not specific to my model year. I did however learn lots of stuff from them .

Yes, the 2nd photo you posted is definitely the winterization handle with the red handle. I don't use antifreeze to winterize the motorhome except for pouring a cup worth down the p-traps in the sinks, shower and the washing machine after the winterization procedure is done. I connect a compressed air hose to my city water inlet and blow everything out good. You must be very careful doing this and make sure you get all the water out. I do the blow out procedure several times to make sure. My Owners Manual has a procedure for using compressed air so I assume yours has one too. I made my own adapter to connect the compressed air line to the city water connection but I believe Camco makes one too. I have used the compressed air method for over 10 years with my trailer and now with the motorhome and have never had a freezing issue with the cold below zero Illinois winters. It saves you some money on antifreeze and you don't get that antifreeze taste in the waterlines.

Hi Steve; The big red lever valve is actually the tank low point drain. It's the little black one on the right that I believe could be the winterizing valve. I'm going to try just blowing it out too. I have a compressor at home and will set it to about 40lb. As you have cautioned I will be very thorough. I have the camco adapter too. I will have to pump some antifreeze in for the washer tho, so I will try the city/fresh connection. Do you just put a/f in the tube and then let the machine run a drain cycle. How do you insure the lines to the washer have blown out?
This is a lot to ask of one person so I understand completely if you find yourself spending too much time.
Unrelated to the original problem I was wondering if you have ever topped up the antifreeze reservoir on the engine? The Monaco people are apparently the ones who fill it and the manual says Heavy Duty Antifreeze. I'm assuming that it has not been changed over to one of the Extended Service types which are not compatible with heavy duty. I gather the color should indicate the type. Just curious what you used if you have topped up. Thanks again for your help...Bob

Ok, I saw the little black valve but then I saw the blue pex tubing that comes out of the big red handle appear to be connected to the water filter so that is why I thought it was the winterization valve. Anyway, yes, the pex line that feeds the system has the winterization valve in it. For my Splendide washing machine, after the whole system is blown out (last step in winterization procedure), I pressurize the system with compressed air and then turn on the washer with "cold wash" and "Cotton Heavy Duty" selected. You will then hear the water burbling out and then it becomes all air escaping. When you hear all air escaping turn the washing machine off. Then I do the same thing with "hot wash" and "Cotton Heavy Duty" selected and wait for the all air sound and turn the washing machine off. At this point you have the hot and cold lines blown out but there is still water in the drum. Select the "Drain" cycle, pour about half a gallon of RV antifreeze in the drum, close the door and turn it on. You will hear the pump sucking the antifreeze out of the drum. You will be able to hear when it has sucked all the liquid out of the drum by the sound it makes. Turn the washing machine off now - you are done. As far as engine coolant goes, I use Fleetguard Compleat fully formulated mixed 50/50 with good quality water. I get it at the Cummins Crosspoint store about 40 miles from my house. Cummins says it is compatible with all coolants. I have almost 40k miles on my Cayman and will probably soon have it flushed and filled with Compleat 50/50 despite the 60k mile interval specified in the Cummins owners manual.

Steve; Again, thanks for your help. I think you have put a pretty good dent in your "help debt" . I watch the "answered posts" section above, to try to help out when I can, hoping to reduce my "debt".
I have a Splendide too, so .
My manual specifies "fully formulated" ASTM 06210EG or ASTM 06211 PG, and I see Fleetguard Complete fits that bill. I think I will get mine flushed and reloaded with one of the new extended service types this year. I'm over the time limit but way under the miles limit. Bob
