Monaco Closing Motorized RV Plant in Oregon
FYI: In my local news today...
COBURG, Ore. (AP) - As part of a restructuring plan, Navistar International Corp. plans to lay off 255 workers at its Monaco recreational vehicle plant in Coburg, Ore.
Monaco will cease production of motorized RVs in Coburg. It plans to move the production and some management work to Indiana and move some management jobs to Navistar headquarters in Illinois.
In a notice to the state of Oregon, the company says the staggered layoffs in Coburg will begin later this month.
Navistar spokesman Steve Schrier says the company expects to keep 150 jobs in Coburg, producing towable RVs and running a service center.

As I remember it was announced some months ago and will start later this month and will continue through the first week in May.

Yes the news has been floating around, the factory rep told us about it at a RV show in January, they haven;t been trying to hide it, just wanting to move production closer to where all there main supplies come from.

KATU news in Portland printed the AP story that was dated today on their website. Old news or new...so sorry for the workers and their families.

Your right about that, that's definitely a downside to this story, especially in this economy. Hate seeing something like this happen anywhere especially when times are tough.

It's sad to see the end of an era. Most folks agreed the nicer motor homes were built in OR and the lesser ones in IN.

I wouldn't tell the guys IN that...
Oregon just hasn't figured out how to keep the jobs here. The motto here is "Keep Portland Weird". What it really equalls is "Keep Oregon Unemployed".
I suppose the outlook of $6/gal fuel isn't helping the RV industry either.
I almost pulled the trigger on a Monaco before we found our Dutch Star. The main reason for looking hard at the Monaco was the "built in Oregon" factor.
Hopefully they are helping the workers out as much as possible (the lead time on the layoff notice is a good start).
