Monaco Diesel Pushers before 2008
I am thinking about switching from my toy hauler fifth wheel to a diesel pusher and have been told pre 2008 Monaco is the only way to go looking for some input on the Monaco line up and also any problems. Or other makes and models that might compare or perhaps better and why?
Thanks, Don

2008 model would have 2007, pre-DPF, pre-DEF engines, that's what you should look for. As far as Beavers are concerned, I think 2006-2007 are the best model years. Mine, a 2005, is missing a couple of things that they added in 2006. But we're happy.

Well I have an 08 Monaco and after looking around I think the 07-08 years are a sweet spot for most models. For several years after that the whole industry was in trouble and many didn't survive or were absorbed by another group.

We're thrilled with our 06 HR. Minimal emissions equipment, no DEF, no DPF to worry about. Well built, too.

All the brochures are on the Monaco site. Depending on your stature the '06 with taller interior may be the sweet spot. No emission stuff.
Still big company rallys, and lots of special ordered coaches in mid 2000's. The brochures are usually just a starting point.

Don, the Monaco lineup includes Monaco, Holiday Rambler, Beaver, and Safari coaches. Depending on your budget, 2003-2009 are all great years. 2002 and earlier are just as great, but generally only have 1-2 slide outs.
Like most of the RV manufacturers, Monaco filed Chapter 7 in March 2009 and was sold to Navistar in Jun 2009. In 2013 Monaco was again sold to Rev Group.
Monaco is one of the few coach manufacturers to offer coaches with Cummins, Caterpillar, and Detroit Series 60 engines. They were able to do this because they also built the custom Roadmaster Chassis for each coach. Most coach builders purchase a chassis from Freightliner or Spartan.

Our 2008 has a 425hp Cat C9 with DPF (no DEF). The engine is a 2007. Really straightforward to have the DPF bypassed as we had so many breakdowns related to it. Runs fine, just like our friends 2007 non DPF unit (with over 80k and no issues).

2000 Signature Admiral and couldn't be happier. When new, it was a $425,000 + coach. I have no idea what that would be in today's money. Jim E. OKC
