Just an update. We picked up our Monaco this week. There was an issue with the Aqua Hot because of it being run when the fuel tank was less than 1/4 full. Being able to stay overnight there is a major plus in ensuring everything is working correctly. The MHSRV technicians were great in resolving the problem and getting us on the road. Just one issue on our first night stay with the Sani-Con system. It isn't turning on but did while at MHSRV. I have read the posts about the system and will work on it later this week.
After much study about the question of IFS vs straight axle on a motorhome, I dropped it off my "must have" list. Monaco never used it on their lines of coaches. The Roadmaster chassis used a H frame suspension system, front and rear. They used 2 air bags/shocks at each wheel position and these air bags are mounted in an extreme outboard position. This produced firm but stable ride characteristics which most like but some do not.
I had a long conversation back in '06 with Ron Doyle who was the president of Western RV. WRV was the parent of Alpine coach and they built the proprietary Peak Chassis for the Alpine. The Alpine/Peak was known as a superior chassis, with excellent handling characteristics. Ron was adamant that on a motorhome IFS was more for the sales/marketing effort than engineering considerations. After many test drives and much consideration, I decided that I agreed.
I have a 2013 HR tag which is the same as the Monaco tag. Name tag is the only difference. Roadmaster wider rail position and the 10 outboard air bags make for a dream ride. Solid front axle still has a 60 degree turn angle. With the active air suspension and 10 outboard bags you couldn't ask for a better more controlled ride.
After adding Roadmaster anti-sway chromoly bars front and rear, along with FSD Koni Shocks I agree even the Monaco roadmaster 8 bager is a dream to drive. deSanford
