I just got a letter from Monaco regarding a recall concerning a defect relating to motor vehicle safety existing in certain models of Beaver, Holiday Rambler and Monaco Brands built 1/11/08 thru 4/15/11 with an MCD brand front windshield shade.

Reason for recall: Front windshield shade may separate from cabin body without warning possibly reducing the forward visibility of the driver.

Did anyone else get this recall and if so have you taken your rig in to have it remedied? I'm still trying to figure out if I have the MCD brand shade. Anyone know were to look on shade to get this info?

As a side note I'm glad they included me in this recall even though my coach came with out a warranty. Makes me wonder why the folks who have had issues with the trailing arms weren't covered via a recall since failure of the arm would seem to be a safety issue as well.

May be that MCD is still in business MCD Innovations. Where as Monaco from that era is Bankrupt and long gone. Don't know who would pay for repair the trailing arms other than the owner of the unit.

On our Vesta the MCD initials are on the bottom of each shade. Just a guess but you probably have those shades unless they were switched out before you bought it.

If you got a letter from Monaco, then that would indicate that their records show they installed the MCD shade in your rig. when it was built. They have a record of every "end Item" part in your rig.

ArmyEOD: You would think that to be true but they sent me a letter and even the part for the brake pedal recall and when I tried to install it no way would it work. Called and even sent them a picture of my brake pedal and they concluded my coach was not affected by the recall.

I just want to make sure I indeed have the item covered in the recall as service is about a 100 miles from were I live.

Ken, wow that is weird aboiut the pedal. Anyway as to your op, do you have the pull down manual or electrical for your wind shield shades? If so I am sure they are the MCD Brand, I am talking about the full windshield blocking/night shades. If you just have curtains that pull around then no you do not have MCDs on the front. Hope this helps.

George

ArmyEOD: I have the electrical full windshield blocking shade and sunscreen combo. I'll take a look at it today to see if they are MCD.

I wonder if Monaco will be at Indo Convention and if I could have the warranty work done there? Will have to check this out.

My 2011 Cayman is still in the shop getting items added or corrected. Took the latest recall over to them to handle with Navastar Monaco. Anyone have the recall taken care of?

Funny thing. We have an 05 Navigator. It has Carefree of Colorado powered sun shades. The other day one broke and fell off onto the dash. Scared the sh..... out of us. Examination showed that the mounting brackets are made of plastic and had disintegrated. I packed up the whole unit and sent it off to Carefree addressed to the president. Will let you know if any adjustment made by Carefree

Probably has something to do with the MCD mounting brackets. I just gave the shop my recall notice and asked them to handle it. The shop was more concerned with how much time and money they would get for doing the work. Also concerned when they would get paid. They did the Lippert "seal coupler" campaign and are still waiting for reimbursement. Billed them over 1 month ago. If I really wanted to know I would call MCD........just haven't had the time or interest. If you find out let the rest of us know..........thanks.

Good Luck. The same thing happened to my 2005 Ambassador. I called them about ordering the end cap. Should cost $5 to replace. They told me the end cap comes with a new motor to the tune of $250. I told the fellow he was out of his mind. I fixed mine using a piece of stainless strap. Is much better than original and I will never fool with Carefree of Colorado again. I can imagine what it will cost you to get your shade back.
