I just bought a GPS for use in our 2001 Endeavor and it came with the window suction cup that attaches to the windshield. Well if I do that I can't see the darn thing. I am looking for ideas on how to mount it closer. I was thinking about a sheet of plastic laying on the dash and attaching it there. Any other ideas?

Thanks Lee

Use your favorite search engine (mine is dogpile.com) and look for a bean bag dash mount for your gps manufacturer.

I agree, I also use the beanbag mount for my Garmin GPS. I used to use the suction cup but it is a pain.

Try this
Amazon.com: garmin nuvi bean bag mount

Didn't you get a disc with the GPS that can be stuck to the dash? That is what I used on mine.

I have the round one and your right it is a pain. The darn thing moves as we are going down life's Highway. I was just not sure if there was a different type of mount I could use and I knew if there was one of you would have came up with it . We heading to Quartzite next week maybe I can find something there.

I had actually thought about getting piece of flat plastic and maybe Velcro it to the dash and use the windshield mount.

Thanks for your ideas....

I use a suction cup mounted on the end of a long (12 inch) bentable gooseneck with a adjustable holder that fits most GPS sizes. Got mine at the Verizon store. You can attach it to the dash and then bent the gooseneck to within easy viewing range while driving.

My Garmin mount swivels a bit, so I just attach it to the side window and turn it towards me.

Like "007" stated, I like mine right in front, rather than on the windshield or side window.

Therefore, I used parts of the windshield mount and re-designed it to fit my dash. I took a block of wood, cut it to fit the curvature of the dash, painted it black and used double-sided tape, to secure it to the dash. Then I modified the mount that came with the GPS and screwed it to the wood. Turned out well, I think.

I have an area next to my dash cluster, just to the side of the radio where I use the suction cup mount and it works great for me. It has no clear view to the windshield from there and everyone says I wouldn't get any signal at that point but I have never had any problem at all.

Ditto with my Tom Tom. I hard wired the charger cable and cleanly routed it up the side window to the suction cup mount. It's only about 18" from my face... which is good with my eyesight.

Lee, have you tried rotating the mount and attaching to the driver side window? That seems to work well for us. (And you're getting lots of good suggestions for dash mount!) Good luck.
