I need to move my RV forward about two feet and relevel it due to some soft, rain-soaked ground when I parked about three weeks ago. Ground it dry and hard now.
Question - Can I leave my slides out and water/electric connected during the two foot move forward or should I close everything up?

Hi dmason

As for the water and electrics I think you could keep this connected during the move, once you make sure that hose/lead is long enough.

As for slide-outs, "the book" will most likely tell you to go through motion of pulling them in and pushing them out. I would also do this but for other reasons:

I assume that you have taken the pressure of you air-tanks before you pulled out the slides and then levelled the coach with your jacks. Before moving anywhere you must fill your air-tanks for breaking purposes and this will start the second you fire up the engine. You will also have to pull in your jacks before moving - don't drive an inch before they are well clear of the ground (read pulled in completely). By now you have "messed up" your original setup bar the slides. I take it that you have electrically operated slides and pushing a few buttons to get them in and out is really the only thing you could be "saving".

The whole process will take you what? 10 minutes? How much time can you save by taking a shortcut? 3 minutes?

Is this worth saving you have to ask yourself? Personally I don't thing so.

Go through the operation as normal and reward yourself with an extra cup of coffee when you are done

Just a reminder that on the Roadmaster Chassis by Monaco (and HR) the proceedure is: when arriving Slides Out, Jacks Down for departure Jacks Up, Slides In. When in doubt check the manual, it varies by manufacturer.

For the minimal trouble, I'd do as the manual and not chance damage due to movement of the slides.

I would bring them in and I would not leave anything connected.

I'll peep up for the short-cutters! Pull the umbilicals out a bit, air up, up the jacks, pull up two feet. That's 24". Isn't that just a bit more than one full revolution of the tire? I figure my coach does more moving during "date night"

Everyone above has the correct answer, I have the answer of what I would actually do. A couple of feet wouldn't bother me. I have done it before. Much more than that - I would bring them in. IMO, if rolling forward two feet forward will take out my coach, I'm trading this sucka in!

Interesting discussion on such a simple question. Of course it all depends on the location - is the ground level, tree or post too close, etc. I wouldn't worry about the slides as much as I'd worry about the connections. Here's the way I'd look at it... With my luck, I'd probably run over something or pull something loose. Then I'd have to contend with the "I TOLD you so's" - not to mention the additional trouble of fixing whatever I broke.

If I'm going to disconnect the water and sewer, then I'd want to pull in the big road-side slide so I wouldn't have to crawl under. So in the end, All I'd be saving is pulling in the two curb-side slides. And that only takes about half a minute.

So, Richard, what did you end up doing?

Dick - when I was in Indiana last year the tech had to move our coach about 10 feet after starting and the slides were out. He started it up and moved it - didn't have to put the jacks and air up but that's really the easy part. I questioned him and he said you went to the factory didn't you? Did you see them moving coaches with the slides out? He was right - they in fact were - obviously not hundreds of feet. If you are just rolling up a couple feet on that site you are on I would make sure there was enough slack in the electric and water line and just move it. Did it last time I was there for the same reason - 80's and no rain here :-)

I've moved mine with the slide out and hooked up. Just made sure nothing would hit first and went REAL slow for about two feet.

I too have moved mine a time or two with everything hooked up and slides out. Had to move it last week due to satellite internet blockage from a pole. Cleared pole and I was fine.
