A week ago we endured a 45 minute t-storm which included baseball sized hail. We were inside the rig and every time a big one hit it was like getting kicked in the gut. Our CRV toad had hood and top dents and our 2005 Diplomat had extensive roof damge. $11,000 according to Geico adjuster.
Back to my question. I always thought that Dips had fiberglass roofs. Not ours. Entire top is dented front to back and side radius to side radius. I scraped away some of the white paint on the roof and discovered metal! Soft metal.
What kind of roof do you have?

Tim,
I can look at the spec. listed on the HR website, Holiday Rambler and it says my Ambassador has alumium roof. You should be able to find the same info for your MH.

Well yes my 2001 Diplomat does have an aluminum roof, but I thought later years were fiberglass.
Don't know what would be required to repair hail damage. I doubt $11,000 would be enough if you had to replace the entire roof. Give the folks at the following and ask them.
Alliance Coach
4505 Monaco Way
Wildwood FL 34785
866-888-8941 or 352-330-3800
352-516-4144 or 321-516-4144

Brett Howard is the owner and should be able to give you a good idea. This is the old Monaco shop in Wildwood Florida. It has an excellent reputation.

Something happen to me I 2007 I figured they would screw it up more taking everything off the roof and replacing it so I to the money and ran and traded it. For me it was a win win situation.

Tim, I think the GEICO guy is a little short.....like half short. They may be thinking that you'll take the money and run. Take it to a good shop and get a good estimate.

Here's the 2005 Diplomat brochure. It says aluminum, though I don't know what "peaked" is supposed to mean. Seems like "crowned" or "arched" would be closer.

If you do have it repaired by replacing the roof, this IS NOT a job for the normal RV Dealer or repair shop. I would ONLY take it to a shop that HAS done this type of work many times before. I would require them to provide a guaranteed cost before they get the job.

I think they went to fiberglass in 06. Mine has the aluminum roof. I don't worry about it at home since it is parked inside. I do worry about it on the road. It's a fairly thick aluminum but can't withstand baseball size hail. It will never wear out but it can sure be beat up.

The major changes on the Diplomat from 05 - 06 were; one piece fiberglass roof, one piece windshield, side cameras and auto leveling.

I've posted this on other threads, but we met a couple in AZ who got caught in a bad hailstorm south of Flagstaff last year. They had a HR or Monaco DP that I believe had an aluminum roof. Since the roof was not penetrated (the skylights and plastic covers sure were), the repair they got was to fill in the dents and spray a coat of pickup bed liner material over the roof. They were very satisfied with the result. Just offering this as a possibility. If my fiberglass roof got buggered up, I might also see if a spray-on would be viable.
