HI....Still here in NC... Hope to pull out this weekend or early next week, once new/used toad is setup with BLUE OX BX 1976. Then heading for CA via Rte 10..

Any suggestions on RV parks or stops we should look into on our way ?

We have have the following memberships, 1000T, C2C deluxe, RPI Preferred and Passport America members..

We hear thru the grapevine once we leave the San Antonio area going towards MISSION VIEJO area, not many CGs to stop at and take a rest.

We would like to be in Orange County (MISSION VIEJO) area by Thanksgiving.

First MAJOR trip of my life... ONE DRIVER..DW recovering from car accident on 9/10.10 and doing very well.

TIA

I'll bet you're excited! Take your time and have fun. We've traveled I10 pretty much coast to coast. I don't have a lot of words of wisdom regarding where to stay except for maybe a couple.

Going across Texas will take you forever. We have found that Fort Stockton is a place we will plan to overnight. Options are limited for many miles in both directions but we like to overnight at the Fort Stockton RV Park. They have decent pull throughs... nice people... and The Roadrunner Cafe, so you don't have to worry about whipping up supper. Home cooking and pretty tasty if you're a meat and pototes type.

Then, if you need an overnight stop in the Phoenix area, you might consider Destiny RV Resort just west of Phoenix. Our grandbabies live in the area so we stay there a lot. It's not great but all spots are paved pull throughs and they have a warm pool and spa to soak the bones after riding through more desert than anyone should have to endure.

Good luck. Have fun. Travel Safely.

Rick

... forgot to mention that if you're in the mood for adventure... have the time.....and are willing to drive your rig near downtown New Orleans, The French Quarter RV Resort is worth a look. I think they're Passport America if I'm not mistaken, too. Walking distance to Burbon St, great security, nice spa. Driving to and from isn't terrible from I10 but if you're still getting your sea legs you might want to pass until your return leg...

I-12 on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain.............
Fairview-Riverside State Park has their own web site and is one of the nicest parks we've ever found. Not far off I-12 with sites on the river(don't ask to spell or pronounce it) looking across at 2,000,000 homes and the Otis House (on the national registry) at the front gate.
Oh yes, it's $18.00 a night!!!

I second the Ft Stockton RV Park and the Roadrunner cafe. Great place to pull into after a long drive through Texas.

I've never stayed at them (I intend to) but I've heard the RV Parks in Kerrville (on I10 west of San Antonio) are some of the nicest in Texas. Take your time and enjoy your trip. Good Luck.

We spent a month last year at Buckhorn Lake RV Resort in Kerrville. Great spot. If you plan to spend more than a day or two ask them about "owner rentals". The park is divided into two sections. One for rentals and one which is for owners. The owner sites have great improvements to them and rent for close to what the standard sites rent for.

pjgmg -- Why are you going South to I-10 -- The best way is to stay on I-20 & hit I-10 East of Van Horn Texas -- I-20 goes South of Dallas/FT Worth & is easier than Houston & San Antinio -- El Paso is not bad if you stay in the left hand lane all the way thru -- Tucson has a new freeway thru town, & a easy drive -- Phoenix (where I live) is another story -- Go thru between 10 am, & 3pm - If you can`t make those hours, it would be best to take I-8 at Casa Grande AZ. to Gila Bend, then North on 85, back to I-10 -- You will be West of Phoenix & out of the city traffic -- I could tell you a 50 mile shortcut from Lordsburg NM to Phoenix, but you would be better off staying on the Interstate -- From Vicksburg, I would stay at Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park in Terrel Texas -- Easy off & on & nice park -- Whip-In RV park in Big Spring Texas - Small park, but easy off & on -- Las Cruces NM, Sunny Acres RV Park -- Plenty of space -- Haven`t stayed in any parks West of Las Cruces NM --

William... First ...thanks for the tips...
Sorry if I put down the wrong info...we are doing exactly as you said... I20 to I10 to Van Horn.... Stay on 10 all the way into Riverside.. Then its decision time based on where we can stay LONG TERM or for 2 wks w/o driving all over the Southern part of the State... San Mateo (State Park) is nice and very close to my Sons home.. Hope to stay there at least a month .. ?

Any thoughts on ..
5 Star RV Park 10929 Lavender Road (Cr35)
Tyler , Texas - 75706

Again.. thanks for the tips and info..

Peter

Will take into consideration what you said about Phoenix, AZ..

Never stayed in Tyler ( I was born, raised about 50 miles North of there) We always stayed at Bluebonnet Ridge when in that area -- About El Paso --Juarez Mexico will be to your left, & some of the cars & drivers are from there -- Some right hand lanes will be exit only, so stay in the far left lane all the way thru, & drive with the flow of traffic until you clear the city, almost to the NM state line -- It is about 40 miles thru the Phoenix area, & traffic can get jamed up -- I think it is about the same mileage, if you go thru Gila Bend -- A good fuel stop West of Phoenix is at the Vicksburg exit, about 30 miles East of Quartzsite AZ. -- It`s in the middle of the desert, but a newer station with RV fuel island -- When you get fuel in AZ always go the the RV Island -- If you use the truck island, you may get charged road tax -- Remember, that in California, the speed limit towing, is 55 mph, same as trucks -- Most trucks run 60, as do I, & have never been stopped, but beware --

I will give you a couple overnight RV park suggestioins (not destination places)
Cowtown RV Park (a little South of Ft Worth) Aledo Tx.
Midland Oil Patch RV Park Midland Tx
Ft Stockton as previously mentioned (If you have PETS be cautious of stickers on the ground around sites)
Hacienda RV & Rally Resort Las Cruces...can be destination park if you have time to see White Sands and other sites. A little pricey but includes breakfast and a good doggie run.
Carlsbad RV Park Carlsbad NM (if you have time to visit the Caverns as it is off your I 10 Route)
Rincon Country WEST RV Resort Tucson Az (Destination Park)
Destiny RV Resorts GoodYear AZ
Saddle Mountain RV Park Tonapah AZ (Passport America)
Indian Wells RV Park Indio Ca
These are a few that we have stayed ( some may be a repeat of the PM I sent last week)
