Pulled into RV park and while I was in the office checking in, a guy tried to squeeze by with his fifth wheel, broke the driver side mirror off. Imagine my suprise as I exit the office and my mirror is hangin by the motor and camera wires. When the arm broke and the mirror fell it scraped through the 3m sheild on the front. The holes in the sheild are roughly the size of a quarter. He called his insurance and they told me to get estimates. My nearest Monaco dealer is 300 miles away in Ft. Worth and not sure if they can replace the 3m sheild or not. I can bolt on the new mirror but I do not want to try the 3m sheild. Waiting for the dealer to open so we can find out.
On a side note. A very intresting 6 hr drive home. Had the wife looking out the window from the couch when I needed to change lanes. Luckily most of the drive was back roads.

Well you didn't say where you were so can't recommend any dealer. On the 3M shield, your best bet is to have it removed. Yeah I know you think you need it but down the road when it ages and cracks and looks real bad you will have to remove it anyway, and then you get to have the front end repainted on your nickle to boot. Removal is not easy and is also expensive. If anyone tells you they can just peel it off, well you know what they say about lips moving. I know of only one person that got it off without paint damage. So take advantage of this incident and have it removed. It can't be repaired and must be removed and a new one installed if that is what you want.

Call Ramco Engineering @ 800-321-4819 -- They probably made the mirror -- I had one broke off & Ramco shipped me one -- Just give them the year & model -- It will be in the $750.00 -- $800.00 range -- When mine broke, I purchased a 2x3 at Lowes & whittled it down to fit in the arms, then hammered the piece into the hollow arms -- We were on the road at the time, & drove from Lodi,CA to Eugene, OR with the rehabed mirror -- Worked good & couldn`t tell it was broke -- Bill Willard

I had a bald eagle fly into my RHS mirror when on Vancouver Island last year and break it off. I was able to repair it temporaily with 3M Panel Bonding adhesive, but I eventually bought a new mirror head from Ramco. I think it was about $350.00 US funds.

The 3M Paint Protection Shield will have to be removed/replaced by a 3M Dealer, not a motor home dealer. I suggest you have that done instead of a patch. It takes heat and training to do this properly. Be certain that the installer uses nothing but 3M material; there are lots of cheap imitations and these are the ones that usually yellow and crack.

I'm a 3M Retiree (28 yrs.), from the Automotive Aftermarket Division, so I've had exposure to these products.
