I just replaced the coach batteries with 4 AMG 6 volt ones, I read that I have to change the charging voltage on the inverter/charger and on the solar panal controller. I got it done on the inverter/ charger but I can't find the solar controller anywhere. Does it really need to be done? It is on a 2004 Monaco Sig Chaueau. Any help would be appreciated

Some solar charge controllers have setting you can change and many of the less expensive ones have no way of changing. I have an older, but very good controller and the settings are changed with jumpers. You owners manual should show you how to change it.

What type of controller do you have and how many watts do your solar panels put out?

The difference in charging wet cells and AGMs is very small and you probably will not run into a problem if you can't change the setting. I have used the same set of four 6-volt AGM batteries for nine years in two motorhomes and they are still working like the day I bought them. And this includes over 500 nights of boondocking.

FWIW: My unit (2004 timeframe) is the Morningstar SunSaver 6 PWM Solar Charge Controller 6 Amp Max, 12 Volt, No LVD. Mine is located in the battery compartment, contained is a black-plastic enclosure.

And the literature from Morningstar offers:
"Standard Sealed / Flooded battery select at the terminal:
- constant voltage set points for flooded battery: 14.4 volts
note: more vigorous charging for flooded batteries to avoid stratification
- constant voltage set points for sealed battery: 14.1 volts
note: exceeding 14.1 for sealed batteries will cause
outgassing

I support Norm's thought. My opinion is that the .3 volts is trivial. After all, it's not as if this unit is charging 7/24. Moonlight just doesn't offer that much solar energy!!

Some additional literature might help: SunSaver 6 amp solar charge controller

Thank you for the info. I will just forget it and leave it alone.

Thanks so much
