First of all I would like to thank all of you guys for the advice, both good and bad, while I have been on my search for our first class A motorhome. We just bought a 2006 Monaco Knight 40PDQ with 21,000 miles on it. With that said, I have a few question that pertain to motorhomes since I've only owned trailers before this time.
1) When plugged into shore power, which batteries get charged, the 4, 6 volt coach batteries, the 2, 12 volt chassis batteries or both?
2) The last two used motorhomes I've looked at on the RR8R chassis have had funny tire wear characteristics on the front tires. It was more noticable on the passenger side. Is this just something with the Roadmaster chassis or is there something wrong?
3) Like stated in question 2, the used 06 I bought has a little funny tire wear on the right front tire. I haven't picked up the coach and I informed the dealer that I wanted the alignment checked. Should I have theme rotate the front tires to the rear and bring two rears to the front?
4) This coach has the 3 leg Power Gear hydraulic levers. I see a lot of people complain about the power gear, what goes wrong with them? I know the unit I bought the pump/reservior is leaking pretty bad and the dealer said they will replace it before delivery.
5) I paid $98,000 plus tax. Was this a good price?

Welcome to IRV2 I think you will find a lot of good info here.
On Question 1 - In 06 from the Diplomat down only charge the house (4 6 volt) batteries when connected to shore power. There are devices that can be added so the chassis (2 12 volts) will charge. If you search for charging batteries you should find a number of threads.
Question 2/3. The wear pattern you are seeing is called cupping and is fairly common on Goodyear tires. There are many thoughts on what causes it but nothing definitive from Goodyear. I was told by an alignment shop that one of the major causes is out of balance tires. So I would have them move the tires to the rear check the alignment but also have them spin balance the tires that are put on the front.
Question 4 - I have the same system and have not had any major problems. One of the problems that has happened is the cause by the way the pump/reservoir is mounted. The pump is firmly mounted but the reservoir just hangs off the end of the pump this allows the reservoir to bounce around while driving and can cause crack. When they replace the reservoir make sure they add a support under the reservoir that ties it to the frame.
Question 5 - In todays market I think it is impossible to know what a good price is for a used motor home so if you are OK with the price and you enjoy the Motor Home it is a good price.
Now get out there and enjoy your new home.

Hedgehog, Welcome to the Monaco Knight Alumni Group. I own a 07 Knight PDQ. Here's a link to dual charge battery isolator relay. It’s about $50 and it’s fairly easy to install. Remove and replace the existing relay.

You might have to combine the link portion lines to get the link to work.
I learned the hard way that the coach batteries are not charged while plugged into shore power. I first purchased a small remote battery charger but had to run and electrical cord every time I arrived at a campground. Finally invested the money and purchased the above relay. Don’t bother going to Monaco they want $90 for the same isolator relay.
I agree with itdave on the tires. Make sure you get a good alignment. I have the same jack stabilizer system and have had no problems. They did add the support bracket during a visit to the Indiana Monaco service center prior to their closing.
I do believe that you got a very good price.
Take a look at the Monaco owner’s upgrades and modifications pages. It has some very good information for making the coach more personable. If I can be assistance just let me know.

Hedgehog -

My former coach was a 2006 Monaco Knight PDQ, same as yours. It was recently still posted by the dealer where I traded it in with an offer price of $129,900. It's been on the market for a while now and I can't say what he really will take for it. When I traded it in, it had about 17,000 miles on it and I would say it was in excellent condition. So, I'm thinking you got a good price.

I never had any problem with the jacks on that unit and they were the Power Gear three point sytem as I recall.

I did have Goodyears, but I don't believe the tires were showing any unusual wear patterns.

The charging system only charged the house batteries. But I never had any problem with the chasis batteries losing their charge between trips. We used the coach at least one weekend a month.
