Smile New to me 40 ft Monaco Executive M-450

Just recently purchased a 99 Monaco Executive, 40 ft, 11 liter Cummins.
I believe I have the Allison 4060 world transmission.
Question, when I shift into 'D', it imeadiatly shows '6' on the shifter pad
and never varies. wil it/ can you ever see what gear you are in. A40 year motorhomer, but first Allison 6 speed. Also I have the 2 speed 'Jake' brake .with a switch/peddle on the floor. Is it on/off. or must I press and hold for engine brakeing. It works well, and I have driven many semi's with 'Jakes'. Jon

My coach shows 6 even when running thru the gears unless I manually change gears, jake brake will show lower gear when on, Jake is off, you have to press down on pedal to energize jake brake.

On my 3060 world Allison, when the "Mode" button is on, it shows the gear you are in, when it shifts up through the gears, downshifts, all the time! I run mine with the Mode on all the time, it shifts up through the gears quicker, and holds the 6th gear longer, before it downshifts! My power to weight is very good, so when not in mode, it will downshift sooner, and bump the governor, and it loses all momentum, till it gets back in the range of the RPM's! Not good, but when it is in mode, it has enough power to hold the speed, not downshift, and it will pull the hill better! Just how my coach works!
Try it with the mode button on, see if yours will display the gear you are in, and the upshifts and downshifts! Hope that works for you!

Good luck with the new "99 Monaco Executive", they are a very nice coach, and that M-11 is a beast! Rail!

What gets displayed depends on the year/model of transmission, but generally it is what Allison calls the "target gear". That's the gear the transmission would like to be in and is working to get there. In Drive it would normally be "6" (top overdrive), but activating a jake brake changes the target gear to whatever has been programmed for braking. Typically either 2 or 4.

For awhile Allison offered a shifter with two gear display windows and those show the target gear in one and the current actual gear in another.

My '02 DSDP had the single display in the panel. I got a VMSpc and added the actual gear readout to the display. Present rig has the two panel display plus I have the Silverleaf set to show it too.

My Jake foot switch has to be held down. I can tap it to disengage the cruise.

Question Tire pressures

This is Jon again with a new to me 99 Executive. I understand tires pretty well, but as we are on the road backhome, I am looking for a quick answer.
40 ft, GVW is 36,000, non-tag. what tire pressures front and back ?
Fronts are currently 90psi cold, backs are 100 psi. Untill I can get it weighed, I am thinking 100psi front, 110psi back. 295/75/22.5's firestones
(that's what was on it) 2016 born date. Jon

bigjon42, you should have a ID plate I think below drivers seat showing Monaco's recommended tire pressures for your unit, that should work until you weigh.

tire pressures

Thanks again for all the responces. I am sure I will have many more questions. Wait, I have one ! The fancy vent next to the main overhead light, the one with a cover. How do you turn it on ? It has a knob in the middle, but it does nothing. With all the switches in this executive I figured I missed a switch somewhere. Jon..

My 04 Allison 30000 shows 6 in the display when in drive but on the Aladdin system I can see what gear it is in and what it just changed from.

Jon, look on the wall for for a switch, with a round knob, and a three way rocker at the bottom. The round knob will have temperature numbers on it. Turn the rocker switch on, and the temperature knob to the left. The knob on the fan is for the speed, low, med., high!
Rail!
PS, i think it says Kool- Matic on it!

Without looking at a table for a 295, it’s in the 8000lbs area single. 5000 each on the rear is probably 80 psi and 100 psi in the fronts.
Need to look up a load table.

Jon, mine is next to my front A/C thermostat and it is a thermostat for that overhead exhaust fan you are talking about. The knob on the fan is a three speed switch and the thermostat has an ON, OFF, and AUTO. auto is for temp dial. I have weighed my coach at 34,200. With the weights I have on front and back axles I run 110 all around with my Firestone tires. You should weigh you coach. I hope this helps.
