new/used owner's first of many!

My wife and I have recently purchased a 95 Dynasty from an 86 year old widow! (another long story!) Low mileage, but has been sitting in a storage lot for years. This will be our 4th moho. Here's my first of many questions; (easy one) There is a rocker switch on cabinet face below the sink that is labeled microwave/water heater. Please someone explain! thx

Our 1999 Chieftain had those switches. You can either power the microwave or the water heater...if I remember correctly. I'm sure you'll get lotsa help on this. Welcome to the site......D

Our owner's manual says that this switch can be used to activate the electric heater in the hot water tank. While that heater is activated, the switch will glow a bright red. During this time, the microwave will not be allowed to have any power.

When this switch is turned off (not glowing red), the electric heater in the hot water tank will not engage, and the microwave will have power.

Apparently, if you have an inverter, and it is turned on, then both the microwave and the electric heater can be used at the same time if you are hooked up to shore power or have the generator running.

I think "jimkate" meant "if you have a generator" not inverter, then both the microwave and the electric heater can be used at the same time. This switch is pretty much a standard item on most rv's that are 30-amp systems. Not usually required on a 50-amp system.

My owner's manual reads:

"On models equipped with gas/electric water heaters, there is a switch that must be turned ON to operate the 110 volt element in the water heater. The switch SELECTS between the MICROWAVE and the 110 WATER HEATER.

There is a special circuit that will allow the MICROWAVE to operate when the electric water heater element is on, as long as the INVERTER IS SWITCHED ON."

I think the folks at Monaco are making the assumption that you know that either the generator has to be running, or you have to be hooked up to shore power in order to be able to provide any power for the inverter function to be useful.
