Newbe to the forum and motorhome world

Hi
My name is Stanley and i'm new to all this stuff, what I've found so far is you guys are by far better than the owners manuel.I bought a 2002 Monaco knight,38ft,315 Cummings. It was filled with fuel at the rv place I got it,we ran it quite a bit there, ran the jenny quite a bit.I brought it home, about 100 miles, played with it at the house here a lot.We headed out on a trip, had little under 3/4 of a tank of fule, dealer told me it had a 100 gal. tank, manuel says 75 gallon. We drove about 150 miles and the gauge said a little under 1/4 tank.I stoped and topped off the tank, held 38 gallons,so my question is my fuel gauge wrong.

Sounds like the gauge is in error. The Monaco's and Holiday Ramblers are always doing that.

Check your grounds. Have a look at the back side of your gauges thru the access panel on the dash board.

Check the connections on the top side of the fuel tank, look for corrosion and or loose cables. Clean them, make sure they are secure and put some dielectric grease on them. Some are on the road side some are on the curb side top of the tank.

Failing that, its probably the fuel sending unit. I just replaced mine last week in my 08 Scepter and it was $280 CDN.

Welcome! I'm no help here, my fuel gage isn't working but I know the tank holds 40 gallons and I know I'm getting 10 miles to the gallon, so I know from the miles I've driven when to fuel up. I can see you already got some advice on how to check on your problem. Good luck!

The only reference I found with a quick search showed a 2004 38 ft. Monaco with a 100 gallon fuel tank. The best suggestion is to keep the tank topped off and keep careful records. You will quickly get an idea of mileage and capacity. In my case, I learned I can easily go 550 miles before looking for fuel. I can then pick the area to look for best prices. (Never Indiana for example) Also, if you don't have a manual for your generator, Google it and it will probably list maximums of fuel consumption under different loads.

I have trouble getting my tank completely full. The nozzle cuts off repeatedly and I have to keep putting in a little at a time. Even then, the gauge shows a little below full, but close.

When filling with diesel it creates a lot of foam which comes up the filler tube and cause the nozzle to shut off

Welcome to the forum, Stanley
Here is your brochure for a 2002 Knight.
http://www.monacocoach.com/StaticFil...2/02Knight.pdf It says 75 gal.

Mine is 75gal and I too have a 315 ISC Cummins.

Here is my info>
Full tank indicates about 3/4 on gauge.
At 1/4 tank indicated my fuel light comes on.
At that point it takes 38-42 gal to refill.
You will first see the light occasionally blink when braking as the fuel sloshes.
I never exceed 63mph. When towing my CRV I get 9mpg, without I get 10mpg. A headwind can cost you 3/4 mpg.

I always plan to refill at 400 miles, and can comfortably go to 500 miles, but the red light may have been on for up to 100 miles.
I have never put more than 52 gallons in the tank.

Now here's the thing you need to realize. That is a big flat bottomed tank. you've got something like 4 gallons of fuel per inch of tank depth. So when you are down to your last 20 gallons it's only about 4-5 inches of fuel. By design, you shouldn't be able to pick up the last couple of inches to keep sediment and water out of you fuel system. If you aren't level you could expose the fuel pick-up to air and have your engine quit! That is why I plan to fuel at 400 miles.

As long as I am talking fuel, buy a set of fuel filters and keep in the rig. Learn how to change them. It can save you a road call and a lot of $$$

Oh, by the way. Be careful about what "the dealer told you". Especially on a used coach. I'm sure they're great folks but may lack knowledge on your product.

You will learn who your "experts" are here on the forum. There is a lot of good info here. (and a lot of entertaining opinions too LOL!!)

And... You used to be able to call or email Monaco with your coach number and they would send you the original build sheet and window sticker with options and list price. I hope that's still available.
