My close out (the plate that moves out in front of the passenger seat to close off the stair well) makes a heck of a noise when it come out, and then if we hit a bump it makes a terrible racket, banging and rattling.

Anyone else with this problem, and I confess I have not really looked into it yet, but is there a known fix?

Sounds to me it's time to do like it says in an old old song, "It's time to get out and get under". Theres not much under there, it could be that a plastic slide has come off and it's making metal to metal contact or something like that. It should be very easy to fix.

The top of the stair well cover is a piece of plywood covered with carpet screwed from underneath by about 8-10 screws. These screws vibrate out over time and it makes the top wood section rattle going down the road. The screws are too shorst and most of the holes in the wood will be stripped out. I closed the well cover then got underneath it and took out all the screws that were left and lifted off the wood section. i then drilled the holes in the metal frame so I could go up in one size then got a little longer screws with a hex head so I could put them in with a 1/4 drive. Mine does not rattle anymore but it still opens with a loud bang.

I'm lucky. Well-cover is quiet going out & in, but rattles a bit when deployed (screws are tight). I'm now using an inexpensive door stop (a rubber wedge design), placed at the right-front corner of the slide-cover and held in place by the bottom of the black hand-rail that Monaco was so nice to have put there for this very purpose!

Robi, the screws maybe tight but they probably didn't go in far enough because of a thin metal plate that is in that wood. Why I don't know. With the door open then while standing outside close the well cover then grab hold of the top section and move it up and down especially on the corners to see if there is any movement. Bet there is and that is why the rattle.

Mike,

Your post was very timely. After this trip I found 3 screws on the stairs! Thanks for the tips, I know what to do.

I can live with the bang when it opens but the rattling is annoying.

Paul.
