I was in the Home Improvement store (Lowe's) last week and saw thin 1" gritting non-slip strips and got to thinking....... Yeah, I know.......

Anyway, when I put my slides out, I often have to take my awning hook and flip out the outside sweep seals. I was thinking.

What if I put lets say, 3 of these 2'X1" strips diagonally on the side of the slide walls. Being at an angle, when putting the slide out, it would ease the seal in the "out" position. Since they are at a diagonal they would not rub against the same portion of the sweep seal causing excess wear. They would however urge the seal into the proper position.

While the outer seal does not complete the watertight seal alone, if the top part of the seal is tucked in and the lower part in the out position, water could be diverted in under the seal potentially causing water damage.

What do you think? Has anyone done this?

There have been several discussions on the Monaco boards concerning this subject. Some "pro" & some "con". Gripper material is also sold in rolls of various widths and "grits". You might want to consider going with the smoothest grit. The heavier the grit, the greater the chance that the outer wiping edge of the seal will become abraded as it passes over the gripper strip. Also you might want to consider using black tape as some folk's have indicated that the white tape becomes dirty looking from the black seals rubbing across them over time.

Hi Gordon,
Many of the Monaco's have this tape installed from the factory. Yeah, I know, neither did mine, but I saw the same model coach in Harrisburg with it factory installed. And it was not on an option list.
I have not seen any with it installed on the diagonal. You do not want the standard anti slip tape as it is too abrasive.
This guy sells the rubberized version in 1", 2", and 4" wide. Also has Marine Grade.

Gordon, if you have a large boat parts dealer in your area, they will have or can get the marine grade anti-slip tape for you. It will not damage the slide seal and works fine. Install it about 5-inches from the sidewall with the slide out. Have it on mine and it works great.
