When I set my Norcold refrigerator to Auto it cools fine on AC but when I pull the AC power for travel it does not auto switch to LP. I can manually switch to LP and it will then work fine on LP. When I turn the refrigerator off and then back on and set the mode to auto when the AC is not connected the LP light will flash on for a second and then show only the auto light but the LP will not start. Again if I manually switch the mode to LP it starts fine. I just noticed this problem the last time we were out in the motorhome, the auto function has always worked fine prior to this. Anyone experience this problem and know what the fix is or have any ideas? I contacted Norcold but was told they do not provide technical assistance to owners and that I needed to call a service center. This will be my last option if can't locate the problem with help here. Thanks.

Good morning Oldtymer, sounds to me that your control board is malfunctioning.
What I would do is get some contact spray cleaner and disconnect each lead to board clean the spade tip and than the prong on the board.
With age of coach corrosion may have set in and a good cleaning may clear your problem.
1200 Series
Have you had the latest Norcold recall done.
You may want to check that wiring also.

Good Morning 007, thanks for your advice on my Norcold problem. I will clean the contacts on the control board and see if that helps. The Thermal Switch recall was performed several years ago and I will check these wires as well. Thanks again for your help.

Oldtymer, we had this issue as well with our Norcold 1200LRIM. For us the fix was a simple one, hopefully it works for you.
We travel with our inverter switched on. Our refrigerator stopped switching to LP when on Auto after we had the Norcold recall done. Initially, I thought the loss of functionality had to do with the recall fix, but it did not. Prior to the recall fix the refrigerator was not on an inverter controlled circuit, but the ice maker was. The folks doing the recall plugged the refer and ice maker plugs into the wrong plugs. The result was that the refer ended up on the inverter controlled circuit and the ice maker was not.
Behind the lower access door to the back of the refrigerator you will find a standard two plug receptacle. The refrigerator and the ice maker are plugged into the receptacle. Unplug them and replug them into the opposite plug (I suggest you turn your refer off first). That solved the problem for me. I am glad I caught this in time, because operating the refer on AC off of the batteries (inverter controlled circuit) for an extended period of time would have drawn them down quite a bit.

That's not the latest recall. They sent another one out last week.

Hi Bruce, We were out this past weekend and noticed this problem. I am trying to get this fixed before we leave the end of this month for our trip out west. It appears that I can switch to LP manually when we are traveling so this is not a crisis.

CoolJourney, thanks for your input on this problem, I will switch the plugs and see if this fixes my problem. The recall (thermal switch) was performed several years ago on my unit and it has worked fine until last week. If this fixes the problem, then I likely have something happing with my batteries or inverter.

Not to sound disrespectful but the Thermal Switch Recall you had done "several years ago" is NOT the most recent and important recall from Norcold.
You may or may not have received a notification of the RECALL needed which was issued in October 2010. Read the attached PDF files and read this link,
Norcold 1200lrim problem
They are all very important which pertain to the MOST RECENT Recall Notice.

Actually, we JUST got yet another recall 2 weeks ago . . . I was asking about it when we got it. Our new-to-us coach was already in for the previous October 2010 recall. I believe we have solved our Norcold issue, or will in November. It's called a residential refer.

Any reference number for the NEW recall whereby we can look it up on the NHTSA web site?
I just checked the Norcold Recall Center web site and there hasn't been any NEW recall posted since the last one in October 2010.
Any help with this NEW recall would be useful.

Dr4Film, thankyou for this input. I contacted Norcold and asked them to verify all recalls for my refrigerator were completed. They informed that the recall for a High Temperature Sensor (issued Oct 2010) still needed to be performed. Norcold has me listed as the owner but I do not recall getting a letter on this recall. Needless to say, I would likely have overlooked this recall if you had not correctly brought this to my attention, thanks again.

I'm confused by Norcold. We had the recall done on our Winnebago in October, but while Norcold had already provided the High Temperature Sensor to OMC (Oregon Motor Coach) to put in our Country Coach, I got a letter form them saying "Even if your refrigerator was retrofitted as part of a previous recall [which it hadn't], it is necessary to have it retrofitted with the new safety device to minimize the risk of injury or death due to fire." The Reference number on this recent letter was 10E-049 recall.
Of course, Norcold sent it to us with my husband's middle name as first, and sent it to an address on our street that doesn't exist. The mail delivery person knew we were the only ones with that last name on our street so stuck it in our mailbox! OMC told me that Norcold shipped the recall part to Country Coach by mistake twice before finally FedEx-ing it to them! Not inspirational . . .
