Hello All, Having an issue with our 1210IM unit. We are hooked up to 50AMP service. Yesterday, we noticed that the unit was not cooling properly in the AC mode. We normally have it set a 6. We increased the cooling to 9 which is the highest setting. The unit will activate, stay on approximately 2 minutes, then shut off again. This cycle repeats itself. Does anyone have a clue as to what might cause this condition? We get no fault code.

Additionally, if the unit repair cost is what we consider high, we well replace the unit with a residential unit. We have a 2000 watt pure sine wave inverter with (4) 6-volt house batteries. My additional question has to do with the alternator on our coach. If we install a residential unit and travel with the refrigerator on, say 6-8 hours, will this overtax our alternator? We would be starting the day with fully charged batteries.

I appreciate any assistance.

You can search this site for residential refrigerators and a lot of people on the the other group site have done this. Last fall I got tired of the recalls and the money I was spending on my Norcold 1200LRIM. We have a pet we travel with and we always worried about this thing catching on fire, leaking ammonia, and we did not find the Norcold to have very much usable room. I was going to install one of the Amish cooling units but we were worried we would still have the inherent problems with the Norcold, not self defrosting, no gallon jugs in the door, and I always thought our fridge had a terrible odor. I installed a GE mfd. 15.5 cubic foot regular residential refrigerator. We have been very happy with it, it will get cold in an hour, keeps ice cream hard, and has a lot more space in the freezer section. If you have the height available in your coach a lot of people have installed these Samsung RF197 french door style side by side fridges. I will attach a picture of mine after it was installed. Find the two posts entitled "Samsung RF197 Installed in 2006 Diplomat 40PDQ" and "Replaced Norcold 1200 with a Samsung RF197". More info than you can digest in several hours and will probably answer any question you can think of, at least it did for me.

We just finished the change out to the Samsung last week and I could not be more pleased.

You are lucky in that you have an 07 model which has the 84" ceiling height so you should have plenty of room for the Samsung as it is 3" taller than the Norcold, if that is what you decide to do.

Dave & Kathy -- Your 160amp alternator will carry the Samsung 197 with no problems -- Harry Martin (Happycarz) tested the amp draw on our`s before I installed it, & he said it draws no more than driving with your headlights on -- I`ve used our`s on 8 hour driving days, & when I hooked to shore power at the end of the day, it didn`t take long before the batteries went to float charge -- If you`re up our way(Gilbert, AZ ) & need some assistance, drop by -- Have a large paved back yard, with hook-ups -- Bill Willard
