Working in Dallas and it is hotter than &%#(&

Yesterday the fridge quit cooling on electric. I switched to propane and it started cooling again but the fans don't run. It can't deal with 100 degrees and sun on the fridge side. In the morning it is ok in the shade. Had the cooling unit replaced about a year ago and the recall in Jan or Feb. Have heard of problems with the recall part. Could that be causing the no 110 cooling and no fans? Any ideas? I have a call in for a mobile repair guy but thought maybe one of you has dealt with this problem before.

Thanks,

RB

Are you able to provide shade for that side? Or is the high daytime temp making any shade ineffective ?

The safety feature (switch), installed in the latest recall has a red light that will shine, if the switch malfunctions or if there is another problem. If this light is not on, then that's not the problem. My failure was caused by a blown fuse. The red light came on and the fridge shut down. In another post, the owner simply flipped the breaker for the fridge, while he did some maintenance. When he turned the breaker back on, he suspects that the sudden surge, caused the safety mechanism to activate and shut the fridge down.

the fans don't run.
I discovered about 6 months after I had my cooling unit replaced that my fans were not running. The cause was that the technician had hooked the 12v leads up backwards to the control board on the back of the refer ...+ and - reversed. (12v motors will NOT run with reversed polarity). The cure was to swap the two wires around. During the time it took to figure that out, I put a small 120v fan inside the access door blowing upward and they did help a little.

For additional cooling for the rear access compartment, it is far better to install fans at the rooftop to draw the hot air out versus trying to blow cool air into the compartment.

Although, I agree that it is simpler to just place a fan inside the lower vent but if you are looking for a longer term fix for your cooling, the rooftop is the place to put them.

I have four cooling fans at the rooftop and I get great results from them. I also installed a manual switch to activate them manually if I want to, otherwise they come on automatically based on the 130F snap disc which is located at the top of the cooling fins.

A few photos included.

We had to replace a switch in ours just several weeks ago. It would be working fine than go all for several hours. My husband replaced the little switch in front of fridge for $6.00 and it works like new again.
