I received a call from Norcold today telling me the recall has been extended to our unit, A 2003 Safari Sahara.
Model # 1200 LRIM serial # 1077430F cooling unit # CU 1457837.
I guess this is a good thing.

Hopefully, when they called you, they also offered a $50 gas card for having the recall work done. I received my certified mail rebate form just yesterday to fill out once the work has been completed by the service department. You have to send the form in along with a copy of the service work order.
Also, this extension is only so they can install an electrical thermal switch sensor into the burner unit to shut down the refer if it detects heat over a certain temperature. It is a lame fix for a more severe problem, and that is the thousands of previously installed defective cooling units, some of which have caught fire and destroyed the MoHo's. The original 2 different recall's back when they first discovered this problem covered the replacement of the entire cooling units, however they soon realized that it was going to end up being a very expensive recall for them, so they came up with this "alternative fix". Yeah, right!
Needless to say, I am having the unit installed on my current cooling unit, #1339959, and once completed, I have already purchased a brand new cooling unit from RV Cooling Warehouse built by the Amish that will be installed sometime before I leave for Alaska next May. The "alternative fix" will be removed from the old one and re-installed on the new cooling unit.
Well, at least the $50 gas card was worth the trouble of having it done. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to complete the recall installation.

I called Norcold today and was told that my Refrigerator is affected by the recall. (2001 Monaco Dynasty 1200LRIM #1189723 cooling unit 547400FB) The solution is to just add the Thermal Switch. It does sound like a poor excuse for what should be a much more comprehensive repair. I asked what would happen if I left the Coach to shop, I was told that this would "Solve the Problem" . I then asked if a fire did start and was told to just contact them.
What was interesting is I gave them my Zip code and they let me know where the repair facilities were. I live in Long Island NY the locations were all in small business locations, mostly store front suppliers. I was surprised at the number. The largest a Boating Supply none were geared to a 36' Motor Home like my Dynasty ( wonder if I had a 45' model). These are just general Norcold product dealers. Since my MH is parked in the storage yard I told them I would take care of this in the Spring they said just call three days in advance so they could ship the Switch.
BTW no mention of fuel refund, does that have to be asked for? I wonder how many Motor Homes had fires as a result and what the Insurance Companies would say when a claim if filed??

When I started my claim, I did it through the Norcold recall section of their web site. Then, a few days later, they called to let me know that the unit did qualify for the recall and gave me some options as to where I could take it to have it done. I went to CW which is 5 miles away, they ordered the part, called me a week later to schedule an appointment for installation. I haven't had it done as yet due to being a full timer but will have it done soon. Just recently, I received a certified letter from Norcold with a form inside to fill out and send in with a copy of the completed service record for the $50 gas card.
I would call Norcold back and ask about the gas card program. Make sure you talk to people that are handling the recall program.

If you got/get a new cooling unit from Norcold, it will come with the "recall kit" w/thermal switch already installed ...just bought one last month when mine failed.

Is there a # to call for Norcold to see if your model is covered?
