Can somebody help?My husband has the new Amsih cooling unit. Before he puts it in,he wants to know what shuts off the AC/DC when the amonia gas leaks out.He had the second recall done.He is wondering if when you hook power back up,After he installs the new Amish cooling unit.Does the mother board reset itself?. He thinks it should reset on the readout on the front of the fridge.

KitKat, Here's what I can tell you. I just recently completed an installation of the Amish Built Cooling Unit in my Winnebago Journey Norcold 1200 refrigerator. The new Amish Cooling Unit does not need the recall box because it is built from a thicker wall tubing and will not crack like the Norcold and Dometic fridges. Once your installation is complete, the mother board will function as it would have before any recall was done. That being said, to my knowledge there is nothing that will shut down the AC/DC or propane with the new Amish Unit.
Here is a video I made that may help your husband in his installation.
Feel free to ask any questions
Good Luck, Sammie

@kitkat, If you have had an error code before the change out, you probably should reset the control board, I recently replaced my Norcold 1200 c/u with the Amish c/u and I am very happy with it. I made this how to video, hope this helps.

First off......Thanks to snowsurfer56 and Sammie for two bit**en videos on how to install the Amish unit. I did a post a while back, on another forum, and asked if the people who had the Amish unit were happy with the results. To my surprise, they almost all said it was no different in cooling ability. I was very disappointed! Since then I've watched the two installation videos and I'm guessing that the folks that are disappointed just had an Amish unit slopped in by a repair shop. I know that the sealing process from Norcold leaves something to be desired and the fans were an issue. I think the fan upgrade or placement and the sealing of the unit are a huge factor in these working successfully. I'm guessing this will be the last summer for my cooling unit.
kitkat....To answer your question, the stupid little black box that Norcold came out with is what was suppose to shut down your unit if it failed. The box was just SWITCH that sensed the temperature at the flue and shut the unit down if the heat got too high. I guess you could leave it on the new unit, but the black boxes themselves have had a high failure rate. Your new Amish unit should never need a safety system like the old units needed.

Thanks to both of you for the excellent videos. I also have the identical Norcold frig., and am seriously thinking of this upgrade.
