Actually i agree with you ,but on the other hand I think the yearly thing is because if there is moisture build-up which might be from various reasons it is best not to leave the oil in the engine for extended periods of time and a year seems to be what most manufacturers use as a guideline... Alan

Are there any concerns about using truck stops for RV oil changes and maintenance? If its the same chassis, it would seem the same parts and skill sets should apply.

The cheapest that I can find so far is $385.00 for the oil change and fuel filter change. This is at the IH dealer. LazyDays and Camping World are quite a lot more expensive that that. Our coach now has 10,000 miles on it so I think it is ready for an oil change. I asked the IH dealer in Nova Scotia if they thought that it needed to be changed while I was there but they told me there should be no reason on a Motor Home to do it before 10,000 miles or 1 year. How does the price that I have been quoted compare with what other owners are paying ? Thanks ......Alan
If it were my coach, I would take it to Alliance Coach in Wildwood. They are exclusively Navistar RV dealers and they were a service center before they were a dealership. Since this is a new coach they are best equipped to look at the systems on your coach. You also need fuel filters and depending on the type of coolant, you may need coolant additives. They will also know if there are any flash up dates needed for the engine.you should be ok for another year or so before servicing the air dryer but as you are in the east and traveling in Florida where humidity is a factor, you should ask their advice. Your Allison transmission should have the 2 internal filters changed at 36 months and I would have a sample of the transmission fluid sent to a lab too see if is still ok.

What is your opinion of the MF 10 after 10k?

Alan,

I changed my oil a couple of months ago at 10,000 miles. I did it myself at home. It takes 7 1/2 gal, a primary filter and a bypass filter. I had to do a lot of searching for the filters as no one in town even had a listing. I got the primary filter from the IH dealer in Las Vegas but they had to order it so I got two @ $69 each. The bypass filter was $39 from FinditParts.com. Easy enough job but I think you could change the bypass filter every 30,000 miles or more. So there is about $220 worth of parts and oil, and they would probably charge for an hour of labor so $385 is a little steep if they replaced both filters, if only one filter then it's a rip-off.

By the way what ever happend with your water heater?

Dennis

I also like the MF 10. Except for the "bucking" issue, that was repaired via a recall, I have had no problems.

Actually that would make it a rather good deal as that quote also included a fuel filters change as well as greasing the chassis and a fluid level check.
We had the water heater fixed while we had the coach to Bedford , Nova Scotia to have the motor replaced on the dining room slide. The cradle under the heater was completely out so they could slide it back under and fasten it through the floor. We are having it re-checked while the coach is at LazyDays....Alan

After seeing what some of you guys are being charged I guess I shouldn't complain. I have a truck service center here that will grease, change the oil (13 gal), oil filters and fuel filters for $225.00.

My son use to date his daughter and he really liked him, so I guess I'm getting the "family discount." Anyway at this price I change my oil every 7500 miles (or 1 year which ever comes first) The price of an oil change is dirt cheap insurance compared to an engine replacement.
