Onan 7.5 DsI Question

Can I run both ACs and all the lights and a big screen TV in my 2003 HR Imper 40pst in 95 degree weather.I just bought it and was working inside and generator shut down and the button started flashing 3 flashes. So I let it cool off for a while and started again but only ran a couple minutes.Do you think I triped a breaker some where?I checked the water and fuel and their good.

Brand new RVer.

3 flashes is a service fault press stop and get the second number. You said the water/ antifreeze and fuel were good how about the oil. Also the 7.5 have a problem the reservoir tank cranking and leaking antifreeze did you add any.

Yes you should be able to run both AC's and the rest of the appliances with your generator. 7500 watts / 120 volt = 62.5 amps.

Earlier this year I ran my generator with full load (64 amps) for ~1 hour to service it and clean carbon build up from the exhaust and spark arrestor.

There are a number of causes for the generator to shut down, you should actually be able to get a 2nd fault code. Check your operating manual for troubleshooting and it explains fault codes, below it an excerpt from mine.

Second-Level Fault Codes: For a 1-blink or 3-blink
first-level fault code, one touch to Stop brings up a
second-level fault code. This code consists of 1, 2, 3
or 4 blinks, a brief pause, and then 1 to 9 blinks. The
first set of blinks represents the tens digit and the
second set of blinks the units digit of the fault code
number. For example, Fault Code No. 23 would appear
as:
blink-blink—pause—blink-blink-blink—...
NOTE: Fault Code Nos. 1, 2 and 3 are first-level faults.
Avoid interpreting them as second-level Fault Codes
11, 22 and 33. The pauses between repetitions of the
fault code are longer than the pauses between the
tens and units digits of the the code. For example,
Fault Code 33 would appear as:
blink-blink-blink—pause—blink-blink-blink
—longer pause—
blink-blink-blink—pause—blink-blink-blink—...
Restoring Fault Code Blinking: The fault code
stops blinking after five minutes. Press Stop three
times within five seconds to restore blinking. Note
that the last fault logged will blink, even after the
condition that caused the shutdown has been corrected.

Try pressing the stop button for about a minute to make sure it's primed. Code 36 is usually a fuel issue.

If you get a sign in to the Cummins quickserve site you can probably find the manuals you need there for ONANs

Here is what the manual has for a 36 code

ENGINE STOPPED FAULT—CODE NO. 36
(Engine stopped without command by controller)
Corrective Action:
1. Check fuel level. (Note: The genset fuel pickup is probably higher than the vehicle engine pickup.)
2. Prime the engine fuel system by holding the control switch down in its Stop position for at least 1 minute.
3. Check the engine air filter and remove any blockage (Page 17).
4. Check for mechanical damage.

How much fuel do you have in your tank, I know that I can run down to ~1/4 tank before generator shuts off but have also heard others is 1/2 tank.

Hold the top of the button down for 1 minute for a longer prime, can you hear the fuel pump running?? Then try to start.

On mine, provided I have adequate fuel in the tank, it is generally the fuel filter. It happens every 200 hours or so if I don't change the filter routinely. I flushed the tank and since have had much better luck with filter longevity. I suppose it could be the fuel pump, but if you can hear it when priming that most likely rules that out. When mine dies and won't restart, the fuel filter is the first thing I change, it hasn't failed me yet. I run both ACs, two tvs, a race car charger, and a microwave often. It should pull the load you describe easily.
Just my .02.....

I found the problem with my 7.5 gen, it wasn't the gen it was the fuel gage. When I bought my mh the fuel Gage showed full.I drove it home,35 mile and parked it about 3 weeks ago.I decide to go fuel it.It only had less then a quarter tank. The dealer said they filled it up
Who da thunk it.
