Onan diesel generator

Hi Everyone,

I have a Onan 5500 generator, and seem to have an issue.

A buddy was able to troubleshoot for me that the unit is not producing any output [hydro]. The two circuit breakers [although hard to read] appear to be in the correct position [flipped to the right].

Anyone had this trouble before? Any fixes I should know about?

Thanks,
jb

Did you flip the breaker off and on again? This resets them.

One thing to know and understand is that the Onan has a built in diagnostic system. If the generator has a problem the the red light on the start/stop switch that is on the generator will flash. When this happens you push the bottom half of the rocker switch and the red light will start to flash a two number fault code. Count the flashes, there will be a pause between the two numbers. Let us know what the flash count is

Then if the breakers on the generator are on then it would suggest the problem is not the generator. the Onan built in diagnostic system is pretty good

thanks again Mike.... I am not too good at this subject to say the least.
My buddy said it was either the switch, or the generator putting out hydro. By doing some voltmeter testing, he was able to conclude the switch was working ok, but nothing coming into it via the generator.
Regardless, the RV goes to the 'doctor' next week. I just wanted to ensure it wasn't something simple like a fuse or something else in which I should know better!

Here is something that a lot of people don't know. If you unscrew the switch cover plate and reach inside there are two inline fuses. One of these will blow if you jumper the battery wrong and will stop it from starting and the other one I am not sure of what it does.
