I have a 2009 Camalot with an Onan 1000 gen set. The book recomends to adjust the valves at 800 hrs. I guess I could do it but don't have the specs. Anyone else had there valves adjusted, and what did they charge you to do that?
Thanks,
PR

Wasn't pulling your chain. I just needed to double check before I said anything about it.

Are you mechanically gifted so you can do something like this or are you going to have it done? I do all my own stuff.

You should double check your periodic maintenance chart because I show in my Operators Manual and the Service Manual that the valves are adjusted at 1000 hrs. They are adjusted to 0.008" (0.20mm) cold on both the intake and the exhaust.

With the crankshaft pulley groove mark at lined up to TDC mark on the front cover on the Number 1 cylinder compression stroke (Check for play on No 1 intake and exhaust rockers) you adjust #1 I & E, #2 I and #3 E

Now turn the crankshaft one revolution and line up the pulley groove .
You adjust #2 E and #3 I.

Yes. I know how to run the valves.
I just wondered how much a service center charges to do it. Just looking for an option before I tear in to it.
My book says 800 hrs. I thought that was a little early myself.

Thanks for the info.

I wonder if Onan has changed it. The big Onan Workshop manual I bought says 1000 hrs. The Isuzu engine workshop manual doesn't state the hours. The problem is that Onan is going to want to replace the fan belt, the thermostat, the ant-freeze and the coolant hoses. This is going to cost. I have never paid to have it done so I can't tell you.

After Wednesday I will have an answer to how much for a 7500 watt unit. I have an appointment with Cummins South Plains Power to do all that on a used coach I just bought. The genny has 1979 hours on it and judging from the other work I have had done, I don't think anything was ever done before. Will post late Wed or early Thur and advise what it cost me. Good luck!

I found the valve lash in the owner's manual. Yep, .008
I think I will go a head and run the valves myself. Just had to rebuild the slide pump so getting to the rockers shouldn't be a big job. Needs the mufler cleaned anyway.
Do you run a Pro Mod?

I have the following model Onan generator 8HDKAK-1046K and can not find in the maintenance schedule any mention of when the valve lash should be adjusted. I know the specs but can't find the timing of it. Not sure if it's 800 hours or 1000 or are they non adjustable?

Sorry to hi jack the thread but since we are talking about timing of adjustment and specs thought I'd ask.

Thanks

I believe you have the same Isuzu three cylinder diesel just a little less power and it should be 1000 hrs.

Most all generators need a valve adjustment at a set interval. The fan belt on that Onan model drives the water pump. That particulat Japanese Isuzu three cylinder diesel engine is used in small vehicles in lots of countries.
