Over heating

Same 05 Monaco with the 5.9. Last summer while driving to the west coast from Ohio, I experienced some over heating. The outsider. Temp was 100+. I was fine until I encountered a slight rise in the roadway. A warning beeper sounds and the temp gauge moves up from 220 slightly. As soon as the road levels out everything is back to Norma. This happened several times.

Now that I've figured out how to use this forum, I may be bugging ya all a lot. Thanks again.

So is this problem from last year? If so, have you had any problems since?
Usually if one is having an overheat problem the things to look at are:
  • Radiator condition (external - does it need cleaning. And internal - any signs of rust/calcium/etc build up inside radiator).
  • Fan - is it turning when it should. Is the fan control working?
  • Coolant condition - do you need to flush and refill?
  • Engine Thermostat - is thermostat opening fully?
It's normal for temp to go up as engine load increases. When going up a grade and as engine rpm drop, you need to shift to a lower gear to rpm up. Higher RPM means water pump is turning faster and that helps cool engine.

Above pretty well covers the bases.

I drive uphill grades by tachometer and temperature gauge. Keeping the R's up makes a big difference on my coach.

Good advice but I'll mention one more thing .

Coaches that have a rear radiator are prone to stopped up fins thus poor
air flow.
This is mostly due to the engine crankcase breather tube ( slobber tube ) that
exits near the bottom of the engine .
This tube emits a tiny bit of oil as you drive , the fan sucks up that oil and
delivers it onto the radiator , that oil then collects dust and dirt
Before you know it the coach slowly begins to overheat and will eventually
get worse about overheating .

From the bed room you can open your hatch to access the engine compartment then you should be able see between the fan blades to tell if yours is stopped up .
Its best to use a strong flash light to see good

Cleaning is pretty simple but requires some dirty work
Most people use a garden pump up sprayer and simple green or dawn .
The solution is sprayed from the inside where the fan is , soak the rad
thoroughly especially towards the outer edges since the fan tends to deposit
stuff heavier there .
Start the engine momentarily to force solution deeper into the fins then
spray again
Allow solution to stay on a while approx 10 min should do then flush it out
with a strong water sprayer from outside then inside
Repeat it all if you think its necessary .
