If you're an FMCA member, a summary table of state RV laws are listed every year in the January issue of the FMCA mag. I believe they also have the January issue on line at www.FMCA.com, but that also may be for members only.

DCTENT,
The table of regulations at FMCA can be found here, but it appears you may have to sign in to view the past issues. Just click on the "here" and see if it lets you in.

At quick glance, most states limit overall length to 65' including Florida so you're a little over depending on which state you're in.

As a legal issue, you'll be too long in most states. As a practical matter, no one is going to pay any attention to you.

A snowbird friend of ours tows 75 feet give or take a foot. His MH, then his 1/2 ton truck full of tools then a closed trailer with two big Harleys motorcycles in it. He goes from Louisiana to SD and all points in between. He has never been stopped. Good luck.

I would discuss this issue with my insurance agent. I am more concerned about getting reimbursed if I have an accident, than if I get a ticket. Insurance companies will refuse to pay any time they can find a reason.

we roll with a 40' mh and 30' trailer, been on the road for 12 months. never had a problem with length issues.Have been from Idaho to Florida,up to Maine and back through midwest. As far as parks, only had to unhook once beause of length. Love towing my garage and wouldn't leave home without it.

Should an accident happen, I'm not ready to give 50% of everything I own to someone sueing me and the other 50% to his lawyer.

There is a lot of stuff I can do and I can get away with. There is always a risk/reward evaluation that should be made.

For me the risk of being over length and loosing my life savings is too great.

Most states will have an over length permit. Florida has a blanket OL permit for only $25 for 12 months. I'm sure other states do also.

NC is in the process of re-writing there laws to catch up with the times. In a seperate issue, NC in the past couple of months has been issuing tickets and parking rigs on the side of the road until a driver with a CDL. This has nothing to do with length, but weight (26,001 lbs and greater CDL required regarless of use). I'm sure some of the larger MH's when fully loaded are greater than this.

I don't believe any state requires a CDL for personal use of a RV. Some states require a higher class of license but not a CDL.

As Offshore has stated you can do this but you are breaking two laws in most states, one being over length and the second is you cant tow two units off of a tow ball legally and i think that is federal, its ok for two units if one is off of a 5th wheel and one a tow ball
