Where did you get that information. You may be right but what I see on these guidelines is 20 meters or 65.9 Ft

British Columbia - Driving in BC

to answer the other question I've never seen anyone stopped.

If you are driving the AlCan you will also spend time in the Yukon Territories! Below is a link of all the various Provincial Regulations regarding towing.

What do you do, when you're home.

33 states out of 50 have a maximum length of 65 feet or less.

DCTENT

We just return from a 5 month trip to Alaska. Left on May 7th from Valencia Travel Village, CA and returned on October 1st. We plan to go back in 2012, most likely every 2 years as long as my health allows me to go. We traveled through CA, OR, WA, BC, YK, & AK.

I have a 40 Foot Monaco Windsor, registered length, and I haul a 26 Foot Pace trailer behind me. The coach is more like almost 41 feet and the trailer is very close to 30 feet. All my vehicles are registered in Alaska and inside the trailer I have a 2006 Saturn Vue and a 2004 Victory Alen Ness Edition, along with a variety of junk we carry around the country. I have never actually measured the rig connected together with a tape, however I would guess I am over 70 feet long.

So far, I haven't been stopped or checked for length, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. The most likely scenario is if you happen to have a problem while on the road, accident, road trouble, etc. then you are open to a violation being written for over length. However, I had stopped at so many truck areas during our trip up and back and had plenty of opportunities to park next to other big rig trucks and I am no longer than some of these long bed trailers attached to extended length sleeper cabs that are also on the same roads as I am. It is certainly not an excuse as most likely they wouldn't be legal either but I will most likely choose my words carefully when I happen to be faced with a discussion about the length of my rig with a local LEO if and when I do get stopped.

We did have a tire problem just outside of Whitehorse, YK and the Coach-Net agent asked if I wanted police service to help with the roadside emergency as the shoulder wasn't large enough to be fully off of the road surface. I declined and proceeded to place the three road emergency triangles out far enough away from the rig so that all vehicles approaching would have plenty of time to slow down and use caution while passing my rig. The service truck showed up, changed the tire on my trailer, and we went back into Whitehorse to purchase two more new tires for the trailer. We were very lucky that we had cell service where it had happened. There are hundreds of miles where you don't have cell service. If that should happen, it's just a matter of off loading the car and driving until you do find a place with cell service to call in the trouble report.

What was really heart warming is a few "older" motorists had stopped to make sure I was OK and that help was on the way. I guess that's the way it usually was years ago, however with the change of time, people are not always willing to stop and help out.

DCtent,
I would do in Canada, what you do at home. I don't think you'll have a problem.

The last time we drove up to Alaska it was with a friend who was overlength in BC.

I called up there and was eventually transferred to a guy in some enforcement office. He said that the length limits don't apply to vehicles not registered in BC that are merely passing through the province.

I'm sure you can settle the matter to your satisfaction with a phone call or two.

I Sent E-Mail to BC Gov, They Stated they could not give Me That Info, I was directed to 1-800-559-9688, They informed Me 65 Feet, & Did not mention anything about being exempt as not being BC resident, Now I'm really confused, I Guess Next Step is to Sign up for a Bail Bond!!!!!OR Possibly Ferry To Alaska.
Has anyone ever Used Ferry To Alaska?

I do not believe the "reciprocity" is granted for this type of thing. Generally speaking "reciprocity" does not cover wieght, hieght and length things. Kind of like its okay to tow triples in California because my state of residence is Montana where it is legal to do triples. Don't think that would work with CHP!

People do ferry to and from Alaska, but it is VERY expensive for a large RV and Tow Vehicle, Cabin and Passenger Fare. Once RV is parked on ferry you cannot access unless you have pets, then only at certain times.

Alaska State Ferry Info

If you don't wish to take the risk towing your current trailer, take a look at the possibility of renting a shorter trailer for the car only and store the golf cart somewhere.
