I am still troubleshooting my Exhaust Brake. I know that it is now working properly but the Max RPM on a downgrade is 2200 RPM before it will upshift. I have had other ISC's that went to 2600 RPM that obviously provided much more braking horsepower. Could someone please confirm the actual RPM attained on your unit? I already know what is published by Cummins. Thank you.

Our ISC 350 upshifts at 2600-2620 RPM, as did our previous ISC 330.

The current coach is a 2004 model year. The previous was a 2003.

Denali, Thank you for your info. My ECU+CAL ASSY is mounted in the Electronic Bay , most forward on street side, and GOV RPM 2200 is indicated on the placard on the case. My contact at Cummins is telling me a change was made, I guess fro 2005, to the lower RPM. Could you look and see if your ASSY has numbers different from my unit?

Sorry, but I don't know where that unit is in our coach. I just looked in the front run bay, and it's not there. I also looked in the electrical compartment that has the Big Boy relay etc. back by the batteries, and it's not there either.

Anyone know where it might be on an '04 Beaver Monterey or other Monaco coach of that vintage?

I have a 2002 Diplomat, ISC 330, the govenor is set for 2200, it's in the front electronics bay mounted on the right side (as you look in the bay) below the driver's seat

tomgagne What RPM does your unit up-shift at down grade with the PacBrake on?

Dave I think you will find yours in the compartment next to the drivers left under the shift panel, or I should say that is where ours is. As we all know Monaco likes to keep us guessing.

Walt:

That's what I meant by the "front run bay". It's not there.

Other ideas?

(BTW, I am still using the dead foot that you made for me back in 2004. Thanks!)

flagelpater, I honestly don't know. I just checked and by looking at the rpm guage I would say that the rpm's have never been above 2200. I've been on a few downhills and the pacbrake wasn't effective at all. It wasn't until I applied the brakes to slow down did I feel any effect from the pacbrake. Even with the slow down the speed would eventually creep up again. I've never downshifted using the transmission pad. I'm going on vacation in a week so I'll check it then.

Flagelpater, back from vacation, so sad. Anyway, on a 5% grade the most the rpm would hit was 2300. traveling @ 65mph and 1600rpm I released the throttle and the rpm immediately jumped to 1900. The speed continued to creek upward, so I applied the brakes and brought the speed down to slightly less than 65, 62-64. Once I did this a downshift occurred and the RPM jumped to the 2300 and quickly returned to 2100/2200 At this point the engine could hold the speed and an upshift never occurred. I hope this information helps.

Ok so this is interesting and I don't want to highjack this thread, but I have to ask. I am new to the Pac-Brake world and Diesel too. I am not sure I understand when the brake will apply and when it won't.

I am a VERY cautious driver when going downhill (I had a Workhorse and NEVER really trusted the brakes even after having the recall done.) I drove the WH keeping in mind 2 seconds ON and 2 seconds OFF

Can those of you that understand please give me some pointers and tell me how it is suppose to act when going downhill? Right now I travel with the Pac-Brake ON most of the time...

Thanks for your time... Lee

tomgagne Thank you Very much for the INFO. I must have been mistaken because all that I can find agrees with your finding. My last coach, 2004 knight, went to 2600 RPM, and the current ISC Brake Horsepower Chart shows 2600 RPM. Cummins also tells me 2200, so unless someone can tell me they see a higher RPM for PacBrake operation it is "Case Closed." Sorry to hear your vacation is over.
