Pooling on Slide Topper
I've tried a number of things to control pooling on our slide topper over the long D/S slide. I put a clear piece of angle (normally used in homes to protect outside corners for walls) just above the curve of the roof, the length of the slide. That at least channels a lot of the roof water to the ends of the slide. We replaced the original awning as it had no doubt deteriorated over the years, and had become more porous. We run the slide in after rains to push the water off. We keep the slide in, if heavy rain is forecasted. Just not all that great!
I got the idea to build a 1" PVC pipe brace to put under the topper when parked for extended periods. It is in two pieces, and stores on top of the propane tank, from side to side. The pictures should help describe what I did. I made it so the ends were essentially the height of the edge of the awning at about one third of the distance from the outer edge to the coach wall. I made the midpoint ½" higher than the ends. Plan was to not stretch the awning, but to create a drainage to the outer edge as well as to the ends. It has worked quite well, really. We had 2.68" of rain a couple of days ago, and there was virtually no pooling. Yay!
(Sorry, but the app rotated two of the photos. Rats.)

Looks good but two or three blow up beach balls work just as well and store easily in a minute or so.

Thank you, Joe. Basically the same idea. Mine is in two parts, as well. Yours provides two longitudinal supports rather than my one. But I like it. Thank you.

Actually, as previously mentioned, one or two small beach balls or balloons work great especially the balloons as they will bust when you bring in the slide if you forget to take them out. No harm no foul!
For those that have the combo topper awnings such as the Carefree Omega I or Omega II, if you deploy the window awning water will not pool on the topper. This does not help the people who only have toppers and no combo awnings.

Richard, the balloon idea is interesting. I could use a collapsable tent pole to shove a string or rope through first and then pull the balloons through. Maybe I will use beach balls and connect a rope permanently to them. Connecting to the ball might be tricky.

Richard, I have the combo awnings and the water still pools if I am not using the supports! Maybe the spring is not tight enough!
I didn't go with the beach ball thingy because of the way it looks!

Isn't there an adjustment to the tension of the topper? If it was more taut, water may not pool.

Yes, you can tighten the spring, but my main slide-out is pretty wide and I'm not sure I could get it tight enough to prevent the pooling!

On my last coach, a Country Coach with the Omega style awnings, mine would pool no matter how they were deployed. I used pool noodles- the fatter ones and that fixed it. You do have to put them in your departure check list however.

Can you tell me why it matters whether water pools or not? I have a FWS on my Discovery, and it doesnt care if water is on the topper or not. It will eventually run off or dry. Additionally, I can imagine the damage if you forget to remove whatever device you use before retracting the slide. Dont say it wont happen, cause stuff happens to the best of them.

Water left on a topper for long periods of time can leave a "droop" in the fabric after it dries. Also, I don't think that standing water is good for the fabric!

Had the same problem and tried the beach balls. Work great when not windy but on windy days had problems with them blowing out.

That sounds good....but how do you get the balls back out? My slide is 18' long.
