We are looking at a 1996 Monaco Tycoon. Saw it today after 5 months of serious looking. This will be our first MH and I know nothing and not especially handy. We are having it inspected by an RV mechanic tomorrow. We live in Palm Springs so will be spending 3 to 5 months away from the heat. Possibly, if we like the lifestyle, stay full-time foe a few years. Our kids think we are nuts as we are 66 and 72. Suggestions, comments, support or whatever will be appreciated.

Older motorhomes typically need some money thrown at them. $5,000 will fix most of the problems you will encounter in coaches that old and get it ready for a couple of years of travels. Check the manufacture date on the tires. This is a great lifestyle, but stuff breaks and you will spend some down time getting them fixed, if you can not fix them yourself. Don't plan on tight schedules with a coach that old.

A great resource is mobile RV repairmen. They will come out to your coach and can fix most of your problems. They do appliances, electrical, heating, reefer, etc. Price is right and they have seen everything. Major work and chassis work is done at a shop. Ask around for one that you can trust. Service only shops are preferred to dealers that sell coaches.

Your age is not a problem. Many are older and still live the life.

........John & Judy, welcome aboard this great site, go for it, don't look back and enjoy. I just regret we didn't do it sooner. Sure Motorhomes are costly, all of them are, New and Older ones alike, so are Boats and Automobiles.

" Our kids think we are nuts "
We've all been throught it and don't "WORRY BOUT IT". Enjoy and post often, and let us know you you come out with inspection. Good luck and travel safe.

I'm will be 68 on March 7th and my son is pushing us hard to get an RV and "hit the road jack" while my legs are still strong and his mother can still navigate. She has diabetes and is declining, so our window is short.

Don't pay any attention to the kids.

I have been getting some heavy duty advice from a counselor to start putting myself as Priority #1. I've been a caregiver for 20 years now, and it is time to start living "my life".

And, that is the very point my son is telling me also, "Dad, if you don't get started now, you will be sitting in a recliner in a few years wishing you had...."
