Great idea Bill, don’t mind if I steal that idea from you, thanks.
My back in slightly canted right from street.

To answer another question about man door on side, yes one man door. Maybe later I will add transom windows down each side for more natural light, wasn’t in budget this time.
Hi Perry
I understand , 12 ft wide is what we are both stuck with , it'll be fine .

The concrete columns , is that what we see being formed up in the pict ?
Are you pouring concrete walls part way up or what do I see ?

It's looking good , I'm envious .

Ray the IBC (building code) for this type of garage to build above 10’ in wood framing to obtain the necessary vertical shear. So the builder raised only front faces of garage door front to 9’ so I only have 7’ of wood framing for door facing. The rest will be 16’4” of 2x6 framing to top plate. Not fan of the concrete, but I’ll either fir it for siding like hone or to the faux stone on face.

My brother and I built my shop by ourselves and we contracted out the concrete work.
The shop is 25' x 50' and 14' high.

Because I have always done my own servicing, I felt it was necessary for safety reasons to install a pit. We basically built the shop first and then excavated the pit before we did the floor.

Although a pit was really not in my budget, after all these years the cost seems like quite a bargain considering the benefit.

Regardless of a pit or not I'm sure you will enjoy having a place to park your coach out of the weather.
Best of luck, Iver

Perry, great looking start, and it will be great when finished!
I am thinking about a lean-to off my son's existing pole barn,50'X80' to make a place to park Mona that is not out in the elements like it is now! His door height is 12', and Mona wont fit! Also the trusses' are 12' too, so even if I dump the air, it is just too close, and if it accidently got air'd up inside! I can hear my satellite dome cracking!
It might be cheaper to raise the whole pole barn up 2', don't know? But then, I would be cutting into his space!
Thought about a pit too, like Iver did, but will have to see? Just in the thinking stage and looking at what others are doing right now!

Anyway, Perry, looking foreword to your progress! Rail!

Perry,

I chose to paint a black guide line starting out in the driveway extending to the back of the garage. When backing in I line the driver side of the coach up with that line and back in until the exhaust pipe on the generator lines up with another line painted on the floor.

Progress with New NW Home/RV. Garage

Busy two days, with severe down pours of rain and wind. House electrical done and inspected, started back filling RV garage until I ran out of fill. 135 yards later I’m still short, oh boy. Lol

Perry,

If you are going to pour the floor of the RV garage it should be filled with gravel and not dirt. The dirt will settle but gravel is more stable when filled over excavated ground.

Yes, I’m with you Bob, sand is 90% percent compaction then 6” 3/4 minus rock and final 5”, 6000 psi concrete. I’m a few weeks off from pouring. Got to compact and let this all settle. Last time it drop 4”. Thanks for following Bob.

Progress looks great ! Always seems when we dig a hole it takes more dirt to fill it back up...... Are you backing in or pulling in the rv ? The reason I ask is for the location of the shorepower outlet. I plan on installing mine inside the overhead door wall. I drive in forward so the outlet will be close to the rear where the coach outlet is.

Flood it with water a couple times if you need to pour soon.

Perry, you're making good progress.

In my previous life, I built golf course maintenance buildings/facilities. Most of the time the engineers wanted a min 90% and often wanted 95% for the sub grade. Not sure what your plans call for, but don't let the concrete guy (or who ever is doing the earth work) give you something less than design.

From your picture, it looks like you're going to have one tall stem wall when standing outside in the back of the building.
