Queen to King Bed Conversion

Hello again guys and gals, I have another question, I have a 2004 Diplomat DST bath and a half. I have a queen bed now and would like to convert to a King Bed has anyone ever done this or can it be done. I called Monaco and they said they thought it was possible. I only have 75 1/2 inches to put one in the slide only if I take the night stands out, also measured and I think Im going to have a problem getting the mattress in, and as far as the support goes I thought I would put a larger piece of 3/4 plywood either on top of the plywood I have or just replace it. Any feedback or sugestions would be appreciated.

I have a 2002 Monaco Windsor with a queen bed and I believe the king bed was an option but you would have to give up one of the two storage nightstands on either end, not both. Also, my bed slide when it comes in, the queen mattress rests up against the storage drawers on the opposite side. Be careful when you pick out a king mattress making sure you will have enough room to bring the slide in without causing any damage from the mattress hitting something on the opposite wall. The plywood support is a good idea.

Thanks Dr4Film, I measured the current mattress and as you said when the slide is in it rest against the dresser a new King measures 76x80 and the queen I have now measures 64x79 so there is an inch I would have to acount for not sure if that will work. I may have to have someone make me a pillow top mattress to fit unless I can figure out what to do.

Bonanza,

I would think that an inch extra on the length shouldn't be too much of a problem as the mattress should be able to flex that much depending on how much bedding is covered over it. Just check out what it rests up against when the slide is in to see what damage it might cause.

For me personally, I wouldn't want to give up the one or both night stands and storage just for a few extra inches of mattress to sprawl out on. Besides, my DW sleeps on the sofa bed giving me the entire queen bed to sleep in. She claims that she cannot sleep in the rear bedroom due to the very loud strange sounding noise's that emit from her DH. Go figure, to this day, I have never heard anything and I think she just wants her own bed.

Good Luck with your project.

Queen to King conversion

Hi Bonanza
1. We folded a king size mattress a little to get it up stairs in our split level sticks and bricks. It survived a couple years and then had to be replaced.
2. A sleep number bed will easily go thru the door in your MH or even a window.
Have fun

Being 6'3" and having an RV Queen mattress, I took a piece of foam the thickness of the mattress and 6 inches long and the width of the bed. I covered it in a nice material to look like the bed spread. During the day it looks like a nice bolster pillow. At night I just slide the mattress down and drop the pillow in the gap. I now don't have my feet hanging out the bottem of the bed !!!

An RV king is thiner than a regular king by about 6 inches.

The best deal on an RV king is at camping World for a select comfort. They are on sale this month. I paid $1549 last April, but they are the only one that has access to an RV King size. They are great and lite weight. Check on their sizes. It was going to cost more to have one made.

Hi All:
We were able to buy a sleep number king mattress (80X76) only with a hand held controller that says "firmer" or "softer" instead of the numerical controller for $843.00 in April, 2008 at a retail Select Comfort store. We found that the retail stores are apt to be wheeler dealers. You save tons by not buying the box springs and the non numerical controller is cheaper also. We had a box springs from our old king so we put a sheet of 5/8" plywood over the old box springs. Actually the plywood consisted of two parts held together with piano hinges. They don't make a 76" X 80" plywood sheet. If you decide later you need the numerical controller take a peak at E-bay.
These things are warrantied for 20 years. Our pump gave out on one side after two weeks. They sent a new pump very quickly. In a MH the pump which is the size of a football roughly can be put under the bed or ?

Hi Bonanza,

I just came across this web site for custom size RV mattresses and thought of your project. Not sure if it will help however maybe someone else reading this may have a need to contact them.

What a great idea! My DH is 6'3'' and would love that! Maybe I'll surprise him!
