Question for Signature owners (maybe Executive) on overhead TV

I was looking at a 2005 Signature at MOT, and the photo of the swing down overhead TV shows some latches. Are these "Monaco" installed? They look a little out of place.
I noticed on my last trip to NE, that my overhead TV was starting to drop a few inches from all the road bumps. I would need to run it back up to flush/closed at each fuel/rest stop. It was only a problem on the roughest roads where there where some big dips (usually at a bridge overpass where the pavement dips).

I thought about adding some sort of latch to keep it from dropping. The TV lift looks like the same one in my coach.

So are the latches shown in the photo a factory item, or added by Owner?

They have been added by a previous owner.

That lift is exactly the same as I have, but I have to say after 140,000 miles of sometimes awful roads, it has never moved even an eighth of an inch. I think I might call the manufacturer and find out why yours is moving.

I'll need to call Lift manufacture (if they are still in business). I guess the motor is slipping. It doesn't look like there are any other parts in there that could be worn out and let TV drop from bouncing. The most I've seen the TV drop is about two inches.

From the diagram in the manual, I think the motor must be a "screw-type". I did notice a drip of oil coming from the motor area the last time I had the cover off.

I'm not sure the 2005 model had the Lift It, Inc., http://www.liftmytv.com/ brand lift that you and I have. I have seen posts from earlier owners that led me to wonder. Mine stays in place regardless of the roads.

I agree with everyone that the latches are owner installed. I have a spare Lift It motor as well as the other parts from a 2008 Patriot Thunder.

Getting rid of the heavy plasma tv and opting for a larger, lighter LED tv might help ease the strain on your system as well. When our plasma died and we switched to a larger screen 50 LED tv, I could hear the difference in the motor not straining as hard to lift it up. Gotta love the new TV technology.

I should have mentioned, the original plasma TV was replaced with a lighter Samsung LCD TV by previous owner. So the TV weight is not the cause.

I'm not sure who makes this TV Lift (the manual is by Monaco and doesn't name the manufacture. I'll go over to the LiftMyTV website and see if I can find a match and model number.
EDIT: Well the parts links on the LiftMyTVvweb page and the instructions links are no good (a sign this company is OOS).

@Hypoxia, are you selling that motor?

It's available if you can use it as well as the rest of the hardware. It'll be a pretty darn good deal considering the amount of help we all benefit from with your contributions.

That's kind of you. Thanks.

But first I need to get coach back from body shop, then open up TV lift to see what kind of mechanism is up there. I've been in there before but I don't recall seeing the motor you show in the photo.

Mike, yours is exactly like mine in my 04 Sig. It has never dropped at all while driving. The latches seen in the pic are owner installed. Mine has the Bose speakers mounted the same way. Once mine would not move up and I had to drive it with the TV down. The down (slide) stop switch was maladjusted to go to far down and stopped hitting the cabinet. Then it would not go up till it went all the way down. I found out later that if you push the switch twice it reverses or stops the movement while in place then reverses.

Good luck
Dave

I have a picture of my TV Lift mechanism now, and it looks different than the motor you show (at least to me it looks different).

I don't see the "manual lift linkage" shown in your photo. I guess the TV Lift model/manufacture was changed between my 2005 and your 2008. The control box is blocking most of the view of the motor, but look a the mounting at the left end. Looks different to me.

Thanks again for the offer.

Yours looks like an electrically operated ram that pushes a linkage? Completely different than what I have, I think they switched in 2006. It looks similar to the electric slide out rams on newer coaches.

Can you read the tag on the motor?

I don't have access to coach now. It's at the body shop.

Once it's back I'll take a closer look. There doesn't look to be much that can go wrong to allow the lift to drop a little while driving, except if something inside the motor is slipping. All of the rest of the mechanism is external and can be visually inspected.

Maybe with the new Koni FSD shocks installed in the front now, I won't have the TV Lift dropping anymore.
