We have always attended rallies that had some type of electrical hookup and noticed the Eastern Homecoming rally in Greensboro October 21-24 is dry camping. We are thinking about attending this rally but have reservations because we have two dogs that need air conditioning and/or ventilation. I have two questions:
1. Are you allowed to run your generator and if so what are the rules for doing so?
2. Has anyone had any luck finding a vent cover that will work on the Fantastic Fan that will allow the vent to remaing open during rain?
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,
I can answer both questions. I was at the Greensboro Convention last year. There weren't any "rules" povided for running gensets, so in that case, I guess common sense prevails. Running generators during the day was no problem, and at any one time several generators could be heard. Almost everyone turned them off at night out of courtesy to their neighbors. The motorhomes are parked very close together on paved parking lots. I have the autostart feature on my Dip, so I just turned that on, using the "quiet mode" at night, and let the genset come on when it needed to. Dry camping was no problem there. They do have a reasonably priced honey wagon service if your tanks get full.
As for the Fantastic Fan covers, MaxxAir makes a selection of covers depending on what features you want. You can check them out on their web site. I had two similar to the one pictured here on my last motorhome and loved them. They also make window vents, so you can crack your windows open in the rain. I don't have any experience with those, but I'd bet there are pet owners here who do.

As Robin_M stated, just use common sense and let the good times roll. I had a blast there last year (except for all of the rain)and it was at the Greensboro show that I was able to work out the deal on ordering my Sig. I can hardly wait for this years show. Wonder what the 2009 Sig will be like?...Hmmmm.

Ditto on the MaxxAir covers for the Fantastic Fans. I had them on my previous Coach and they were the first things we installed on the new Coach.

When you camp close to someone and run your gen, please have an extender on your exhaust that goes up. Camping world had them for $119 and they really work. Some people and animals have died due to others exhaust coming in their coach.

Thanks for the tips folks. We have made our reservation and plan to be there. I was wondering if we needed to purchase the exhaust extension.

Hi Bob,
My wife and I go to dogshows and are usually side by side with other attendees. We have a generator exhaust extender because most shows require them. Ours is called the "Genturi". We ordered ours through an rv dealer but you can also order yours through "Camping World". One of the best purchases we have made. I completely forgot that we could use it at ralleys. We were parked closer at the Indio FMCA ralley than a lot of the dog show spaces. We will use ours at the Albany, OR. Northwest FMCA Ralley next week.
The Genturi is very simple to attatch although you do have to remove the pretty chrome generator exhaust pipe end temporarily while you use it.
Happy ralleying,
AKBrick
