Has anyone gone to this Rally previously? We have never done a rally and are considering this one. We don't want to travel really far for one but would like to expereince a Rally. There is also one the following weekend in quartzsite that some Monaco people are going to attend.
any thoughts on which might be better to expereince in terms of vendors and fun??

Karen,
Good Morning! (Ok...it is still in the AM here.. and I am busy doing coach cleaning ...so I am a little quiet so far today... )
Who is putting on the rally in Indio...and when is it? I could not find it on the Monaco site...so I am not sure which one it is...

I think you mean the FMCA correct? We attended as walk ins not with the coach on site. Ase luck would have it we avoided a quagmire. It rained and many coaches had to be pulled out of the mud! They sank in up to the axles!
As far as shows go it was OK for a small venue. A nice thing is you can go around and visit the membership CGs that the elite stay the winter in. Some of the lots are for sale on the internet for $100k plus.

There is a FMCA Western Area Rally January 9-13 in Indio, CA. I don't know any more about it though.
We are looking at possibly attending the FMCA International Convention in Pomona, CA February 25-28 since there is not a Monaco sponsored rally near this location at this time. (Not sure what the difference is between these 2 FMCA events.)
We wanted to attend a Monaco event since we felt we would learn from fellow Monaco owners. Any comments on the differences between a Monaco-specific rally and a FMCA rally is appreciated. Since this would be our first rally I'm sure it would be a great experience even if not Monaco specific.

it's an FMCA rally. There is discussion of the Quartzsite Rally on the Monacoers list with quite a few people indicating they are going. So I was thinking that the Indio rally might be a bit larger than Quartzsite's.
MM-Too bad you are no longer in Ca as the
chances of us making it up to Pacific NW--well could take a LONG time

Gonefishin,
That is why I asked the question as we have never attended one but people talk about how great they are, the deals you can get, the friends you make.................
We would like to attend one but one that isn't too far.

I can tell you that the Monaco pre-rallies usually have a pretty good turnout...and the pre-rallies sponsored with Monaco tend to have a lot of food & drink involved! . I also noticed the pre-rally includes 30 amp service. This is also limited to 500 rigs...which would be more to my liking...not so big that it is overwhelming. (You can go here to download the application )
The FMCA International rallies will be quite a bit larger, so the nice thing about attending these two functions is that it will give you the feel of a "Brand Sponsored" rally and then you would also tget the feel of a very large rally with many different brands involved.
I would opt for the Monaco pre-rally just so you can experience a rally without feeling overwhelmed the first time out...and if you had the time you could attend both...JMO...

We went to Quartsite last year, and I have to say, it is a real happening. Everyone dry camps out in the desert...some one said several hundred thousand rigs...everything RV is for sale in the many booths...we had a great time, except the weather last year was very cold, and it rained one day....but people come from all over the country to go to Quartsite!!!

If you've never been to the party at Quartzsite you should go at least once just for the experience. Until we got this long rig (which drags its tail on the dirt roads) we went every year with a group of friends. We camped on BLM land at the Bell mountain exit just west of town. We had several sites we could use and "circled" the rigs around a large bon fire. The giant flea market can take 3 days to see but after a while you find yourself seeing the same stuff in the booths.
Since there are no facilities there you get to know your rigs boondocking capabilities. Dump stations and water is available, either from the pooper pumper and water wagon or drive to stations. The fast food and restaurant facilities are over run and you'd best plan to do your own food.
I call Quartzsite "the fiberglass landscape" due to all the RV's. Make usre your heater works because it can freeze there at nite.

Bruce and Gloria,
Thanks for the report. It sounds good. maybe we'll just drive over since it's pretty close to us.
