We seem to be having some problems also, but ours seem to work differently each time we use it. Sometimes it will only play DVD's using the manual control and sometimes it will only work by remote! But it does work. It always works when you go in for service.

We had trouble with the DVD player on the RCA system in our Diplomat for the last year. About a week ago I replaced it with a Sony Home Theater. When we first got the coach (used) in October 2007 the television had problems with the tuner so I replaced it with a new one that was HD and DTV ready. Both units have HDMI so I now can use a single HDMI for DVD playback and have retained the RCA sound out signals from the television so that I can play the TV sound through the home theater.

Monaco uses a Molex connector for all the speaker wires so making the switch to the Sony was not difficult. I just unplugged the short cable with the 12 position Molex on one end and the individual speaker channel plugs on the other end. Took it to my shop and replaced the speaker channel plugs with the ones that fit the Sony.

That RCA unit grinds and groans like its trying to eat itself or the dvd that it won't load. It takes a long time just to open a carrier.

Our unit 08 Camelot came with the RCA unit also. During our first year we went through 6 of them (replaced under warranty). They kept blowing up and not working at all. After much talking we got the Sony 5.1 home theater (Under warranty) put in at Elkart before they closed. Not one problem since. Never did figure out the cause. They insisted on heat, but that never panned out.

You're not alone. Had the same problem and ended up just getting rid of the RCA and replacing it with a Sony Receiver with HDMI switching and a standalone DVD player. The RCA has problems reading DVD's that are not perfect. Before I replaced ours I could wash the DVD and that would sometimes help.

If yours is still in warranty you should be able to have it replaced but insist on the Sony. If not in warranty replace it with a decent receiver. Be mindful of the weight though. The higher end receivers can be very heavy which could be a problem in the overhead AV cabinet.
