On our last outing, I wanted to use the overhead A/C units on the way home to keep us cool. The front unit worked fine, but the rear unit made a lot of noise. It was a kind of chirping noise from the blower. We turned off the rear unit. Once at home, I tried it again...same....then I just used the blower and the same sound came up, so I guess I have narrowed it to the blower. I'm thinking the bearings are going out.
My question is related to the blower. I opened up the cover (inside) where the filter is located. There is not much there. There is a label on some sort of foil material. Is there a primer on how to access this blower? Thanks for any advice.

NMBeemercouple...
There are 4 bolts that hold the AC unit to the roof. Please try to tighten these so they are a little more than "hand-tightened" (about 12-14 inch pounds of torque). DO NOT over-tighten.
There may be a chance that one of these bolts have loosened up more than the others so that is causing the squirrel cage to hit the housing.
I hope this fixes your noise! Don't forget to let us know.

You will need to go up on the roof and remove the cover on the unit. I am not sure which unit you have but most are held on with four screws. On RV units many times you will find that the evaporator and condenser fan are ran by a single motor with a shaft at each end. You will be able to see the condenser impeller when you remove the cover. The evaporator is the radiator that the freon expands inside, thus removing heat from the air passing through it. It will be inside a cover to keep the inside air from passing to the outside. There may be an object inside the evaporator fan housing causing the noise. At any rate, you should be able to place a paper towel cardboard tube against one of your ears and move it around while the unit operates to locate the source of the noise.

Turns out the solution was easy. After I opened the cover, I noticed a mud dauber nest on the inside of the cover....then another....and one was on the inside of the "squirrel cage". There was a single motor for both blowers....and the mud dauber next was enough to put the blower out of balance. As soon as it was cleaned, I turned it on and ran as smooth as ever. Thanks for the help. I'll have to check under there more often, I just cleaned it a couple of months ago....
So glad it was a cheap fix.

Darn wasps and dobbers. They must think we park the motorhome next to the house for them to breed in. Just the other day I saw a wasp go through one of the small holes in the air intake screen at the top of the rear cap. That was before our 3000 mile trip to Main and back. Hope they enjoyed the ride!
Glad your fix was so easy.

Hey Bob... SacsTC saw some going in on our air intake. We took off on a 600 mile trip. They rode with us - and survived the trip. He ended up spraying them from the ground with wasp & hornet spray early AM before they became active.
Ohhh- the by-product seen below was found at the air cleaner when he changed the filter.

Thanks MM, I'll probably have to do the same.
